Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- High temperatures: contact with hot stones or steam can cause burns or scalds.
- Thermal shock: damp stones or stones containing water may crack or shatter when heated.
- Sudden release of steam and splashes when pouring water abruptly.
- Weight and irregular edges: risk of injury to hands and feet, or damage to the floor, when handling them or if dropped.
- Dust and particles during handling that may irritate eyes and airways.
- Incorrect placement that hinders ventilation and may cause overheating or damage to the heater.
- Use of salty, chlorinated or additive-containing water, or pouring oils/essences directly onto the stones, which may generate irritating fumes and damage the equipment.
Safe use
- Use only sauna-specific stones of a size compatible with your heater; avoid coated or decorative stones.
- Before first use, rinse them to remove dust and allow them to dry completely.
- Arrange them with gaps between stones to promote airflow; do not compact them or exceed the load recommended by the heater manufacturer.
- Pour small amounts of clean water with a ladle and keep your distance; aim the water at the top of the stones, avoiding wetting heating elements or electrical components.
- Do not add oils, essences or alcohol directly onto the stones; use dedicated accessories if you wish to aromatise and follow the heater's instructions.
- Do not touch or handle the stones while they are hot; use heat-resistant gloves if you must handle them while they are still warm.
- Remove and replace cracked, glazed or crumbled stones; rearrange them periodically to maintain good ventilation.
- Stop use if you notice unusual odours, abnormal sizzling or excessive heat; allow everything to cool before inspecting.
Storage and maintenance
- Store unused stones in a dry, well-ventilated place; avoid prolonged moisture.
- After each session, allow the assembly to cool and dry; keeping the door slightly open can help vent moisture.
- Regularly clean dust and grit from the heater area and the floor to prevent build-up.
- Periodically, with the equipment completely cold, remove the stones, discard loose fragments and place them back leaving ventilation gaps.
- If washed, use clean water only and ensure they are completely dry before reinstalling.
- Protect hands and feet when handling (work gloves and closed footwear) and work on a stable surface.
Restrictions of use
- For use only in saunas with a suitable heater; do not use on barbecues, fireplaces, ovens, grills, aquariums or as decoration on household heat sources.
- Do not use stones collected from the beach, river or garden; they may contain moisture, salts or impurities that promote breakage.
- Do not pour seawater, scented, chlorinated or additive-containing water onto the stones.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets; the sauna area must be used under the supervision of a responsible adult.
- Avoid rapidly cooling hot stones with large quantities of water or by direct immersion.
- People with asthma, dust allergies or respiratory sensitivity should avoid handling dusty stones or use light respiratory protection during handling.
