Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Overheating and potential fire caused by using bulbs with unsuitable wattage or by insufficient ventilation.
- Burns from touching the lampshade or metal rings after prolonged use.
- The shade falling due to insecure fixing or an unbalanced assembly.
- Breakage of glass, ceramic or rigid parts that may cause cuts.
- Warping, melting or discolouration of fabrics and plastics due to heat.
- Build-up of dust and lint near the bulb that promotes overheating and unpleasant odours.
- Proximity to combustible materials such as curtains, papers or furniture.
- Impacts in passageways from poorly positioned hanging shades and accidental tugs by children or pets.
Safe use
- Check compatibility with the light fitting and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for both the shade and the lamp.
- Observe the maximum wattage specified for the fitting; prefer low heat‑emitting bulbs such as LED.
- Ensure the bulb does not touch the shade and that there is sufficient air space to dissipate heat above and below.
- Install the shade using the appropriate ring or adaptor and tighten without over‑tightening; check it is centred and stable.
- Maintain safe clearances from curtains, low ceilings and combustible surfaces.
- Do not cover the shade with fabrics, paper, decorations or covers not intended by the manufacturer.
- Switch off and allow to cool before cleaning, adjusting the shade or changing the bulb.
- If you notice a burning smell, smoke, discolouration or deformation, switch off immediately and inspect; replace the shade if there is any damage.
- Avoid exposing the shade to continuous moisture or steam.
Storage and maintenance
- Dust with a soft cloth or brush when the shade is cool; avoid abrasive products and direct contact of cleaning agents with the material.
- Periodically check for cracks, burn marks, looseness in the ring or clips, or detachment of the inner lining.
- If there is visible damage or scorched areas, replace the shade.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated place, protected from impacts, crushing and direct sunlight.
- Transport and handle with both hands; for fragile models, protect the edges.
- Keep rings, adaptors and small parts in a sealed bag, out of reach of children and pets.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use outdoors or in damp areas.
- Do not use bulbs that exceed the wattage recommended by the fitting; avoid high heat‑emitting bulbs (e.g. halogen bulbs) if the shade is not rated for them.
- Do not place the shade near open flames, heaters or intense sources of heat.
- Do not modify, drill, cut or spray-paint with flammable aerosols; do not add decorations that obstruct ventilation or touch the bulb.
- Do not hang objects from the shade or use it to support weight.
- Do not install hanging shades at a height that could strike people in passageways.
- Do not allow children to play with or handle the shade; adult supervision is recommended during handling and assembly.
- Do not use the shade if it is deformed, cracked or if the inner lining is coming away.
