Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Burns from contact with high-temperature parts, tools and metal, as well as from spatter.
  • Fires caused by sparks, slag or flames near combustible materials.
  • Risk of electric shock when using electric welding equipment or with faulty connections.
  • Eye damage from intense light and radiation in arc-welding processes.
  • Inhalation of potentially harmful fumes and gases, with irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract.
  • Pressurised gas hazards: leaks, projectile risks, or cylinder overheating.
  • Exposure to high noise levels in certain processes and auxiliary tasks.
  • Cuts and entrapments when handling parts with sharp edges or tools.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the equipment and consumables manufacturer’s instructions before starting.
  • Always use appropriate personal protection: a welding helmet or shield with an appropriate filter, safety glasses where applicable, heat-resistant gloves, non-synthetic long-sleeved clothing and closed footwear.
  • Work in ventilated areas and, where possible, with local fume extraction; avoid confined spaces without additional measures.
  • Remove flammable materials from the area and keep a fire extinguisher nearby and accessible.
  • Protect those around you with screens and maintain a safe distance to avoid exposure to sparks and intense light.
  • Inspect cables, connections, hoses and regulators before use; do not use the equipment if you detect damage, leaks or loose fittings.
  • Keep hands dry and work on stable surfaces; do not use the equipment on wet floors.
  • Do not leave torches or welding machines energised and unattended; place them in their holder and allow hot parts to cool before moving or storing them.
  • Disconnect power and close gas valves at the end of the job or during extended breaks.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store equipment once cool, clean and dry, protected from dust and moisture.
  • Store gas cylinders upright, securely fastened, with protective caps, away from heat sources and direct sunlight, in well-ventilated areas.
  • Keep electrodes, rods, wire and flux in their sealed, dry containers, following the manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Periodically check cables, hoses, nozzles, clamps and tips; replace worn or damaged items.
  • Remove spatter and residues after each use to prevent build-up that could ignite or damage the equipment.
  • Keep the area and consumables out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.

Restrictions on use

  • Not suitable for minors; any training must be carried out under competent adult supervision.
  • Do not use welding equipment in the presence of flammable vapours, combustible dust or in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Do not weld on pressurised or sealed containers, or those that contain residues of fuels or solvents.
  • Do not use the equipment in rain or very damp environments.
  • Do not work if you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or substances that impair attention.
  • People with respiratory conditions or who are pregnant should minimise exposure to fumes and consider enhanced protection or avoiding these tasks.
  • People with pacemakers or other electronic implants should take extreme precautions and avoid proximity to arc-welding equipment.
  • Do not modify the equipment and use only compatible accessories and consumables recommended by the manufacturer.
