Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts when handling the edges or when removing swarf or shavings.
- Ejection of swarf/shavings and fragments in the event of breakage of the cutter or the workpiece.
- Inhalation of fine dust and generation of noise and vibration.
- Kickback or snagging of the workpiece if the feed rate is unsuitable.
- Loss of clamping if the shank is incompatible or improperly tightened.
- Overheating of the cutter or the material, with a risk of burns.
- Damage to the machine or the workpiece due to misalignment or use of a worn cutter.
Safe use
- Check the cutter’s compatibility with the machine (type, shank and recommended speed range).
- Inspect before use: discard cutters with cracks, chipping, a bent shank or significant rust.
- Disconnect the tool from the mains or remove the battery before fitting or changing the cutter.
- Clean the shank and clamping area; insert and tighten firmly according to the equipment instructions, without makeshift adaptors.
- Secure the workpiece with clamps, guides or stops; keep hands away from the cutting path.
- Allow the machine to reach operating speed before contacting the workpiece; feed progressively without forcing, making multiple passes if necessary.
- Wear safety goggles, hearing protection and, if there is dust, an appropriate mask; tie back hair and avoid loose clothing or accessories.
- Use dust collection or extraction when possible to improve visibility and reduce exposure.
- Stop work if you notice abnormal vibration, a burning smell or loss of sharpness.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean the cutters after use to remove resin and swarf/shavings; dry them thoroughly before storing.
- Store them in cases or holders that protect the edges and prevent them from knocking together.
- Avoid humidity and extreme temperatures that could cause corrosion or deformation.
- Periodically check the condition of the shank and cutting edges; replace cutters with excessive wear, imbalance or persistent vibration.
- Do not grind, sand or modify the shank to make it fit; keep the contact surfaces clean.
- If sharpening, use appropriate tools and do not alter the original geometry; if this is not possible, replace the cutter.
Restrictions of use
- Keep out of reach of children; for use only by persons familiar with rotary tools.
- Do not use freehand without a machine; cutters are designed to operate mounted in compatible machines.
- Do not exceed the recommended speeds or use with machines that have play, are damaged, or lack guards.
- Do not use on materials for which the cutter is not designed; select the appropriate type for each material and operation.
- Do not modify, weld, heat or regrind the cutter; discard it if damaged.
- Avoid loose gloves and wide sleeves that could catch; do not work when tired or under the influence of substances that impair alertness.
