Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Falls or loss of balance during installation on walls or ceilings.
- Impacts from falling signs, panels or poorly secured supports.
- Cuts from panel edges, cable ties, or when handling cutting tools.
- Trips due to lifted floor signage, post bases or poorly placed tape.
- Skin or respiratory irritation when using aerosols, adhesives or when drilling surfaces.
- Accidental penetration of hidden cables or pipes when screwing into surfaces.
- Insufficient visibility or incorrectly oriented signage causing confusion and accidents.
- Wind-induced tipping of A-frames, cones or banners outdoors.
Safe use
- Plan the location so it is clearly visible, free from glare and obstacles, and at an appropriate reading height.
- During installation, cordon off the work area and signpost the installation itself to avoid interference with passage.
- Wear gloves when handling panels and safety goggles when cutting or drilling; wear a mask if dust or vapours are generated.
- Use a detector to check for cables and pipes before drilling; use fixings appropriate to the wall type and load.
- If using adhesives, clean and dry the surface thoroughly, test in a discreet area and observe curing times before traffic or loading.
- For floor signage, press down around the entire perimeter to prevent raised edges and do not allow traffic until the bond is firm.
- Outdoors, anchor or ballast A-frames, posts and supports; remove or secure them in high winds.
- Avoid placements that block exits, emergency equipment or essential controls.
- Check stability and final legibility from the intended viewing distance before considering the installation complete.
Storage and maintenance
- Store panels and vinyls flat or vertically as specified by the manufacturer, avoiding creases and deformation.
- Keep in dry, ventilated places away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep adhesives and aerosols tightly closed, in the recommended position and at a moderate temperature.
- Clean with a soft cloth and a neutral soapy solution; avoid abrasive products or strong solvents that could damage the surface or the print.
- Carry out periodic inspections: check legibility, contrast, orientation and the condition of fixings.
- Retighten fasteners and replace damaged cable ties or supports; replace items that are discoloured, deformed or cracked.
- Monitor floor signage and renew if there is wear or lifted edges.
- After wind events or impacts, check the stability of outdoor elements.
- To remove adhesives, ventilate the area and apply moderate heat or use manufacturer-recommended products, avoiding damage to the surface.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use signage as a structural barrier, handhold, step or platform.
- Do not overload lightweight supports with signage or accessories that exceed their capacity.
- Do not place on hot, unstable or continuously damp surfaces.
- Do not position signs where they reduce headroom or create a trip hazard.
- Do not cover exits, emergency equipment, switches, ventilation grilles or safety devices.
- Do not use near open flames or heat sources if the material is not designed for it.
- Keep out of reach of children; this is not a toy or play item.
- Tasks involving work at height, cutting, drilling or the use of chemicals must be carried out by trained personnel with appropriate protection.
