Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Unit tipping over due to an unevenly distributed load, uneven floors or unlocked castors.
- Falling or breakage of shelves (especially glass), with a risk of impact injuries or cuts.
- Finger trapping and cuts on doors, lids, drawers and edges.
- Burns from hot surfaces or steam, and from contact with intense cold in models with thermal functions.
- Electrical hazard due to moisture, damaged cables or improper connections in units with electrical components.
- Cross-contamination or food spoilage due to poor hygiene or inappropriate temperatures.
- Slips due to drips, spills or condensation around the unit.
- Collisions when moving the loaded unit in corridors or busy areas.
Safe use
- Assemble and level according to the manufacturer's instructions, and check stability before loading.
- Apply the castor brakes during service; move only when aisles are clear and the castors are released.
- Observe the stated load capacity; distribute the weight and place the heaviest items on lower shelves.
- Check glass, hinges, runners and fixings; do not use if there are cracks, excessive play or loose parts.
- Keep edges and surfaces dry; use stops or non-slip mats for trays and containers.
- If it incorporates heating, cooling or lighting, do not obstruct grilles or air outlets; verify temperatures with an independent thermometer where applicable.
- Use food-safe containers and covers; keep raw foods separate from ready-to-eat items.
- Operate doors and lids with hands kept clear of hinges and runners; close gently to avoid trapping.
- Disconnect from the mains and allow to cool or return to ambient temperature before cleaning or moving equipment with electrical components.
- Empty drip trays and wipe up spills immediately to prevent slips and bad odours.
Storage and maintenance
- Place the unit on a firm, level, dry surface, away from heat sources and excessive moisture.
- Clean food-contact surfaces daily with suitable products; rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Avoid abrasive pads or chemicals that scratch glass or metal and hinder hygiene.
- Frequently check fasteners, castor brakes, gaskets and seals; replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
- On electric models, inspect cables and plugs; do not use if they show cuts, cracks or abnormal heating.
- Keep grilles and drip trays clear; manage condensation to prevent puddles forming.
- Before maintenance tasks, disconnect and wait until surfaces are cool or at ambient temperature.
- If not in use for a period, empty, clean, dry and cover to protect from dust; ventilate before using again.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use as a seat, step or support to climb on.
- Do not move the unit when loaded or with doors or lids open.
- Do not exceed the recommended load or stack above the safety edge of the shelves.
- Do not allow unsupervised access by children in service or display areas.
- Do not cover ventilation openings or place cloths over heating elements or luminaires.
- Do not place outdoors unless the manufacturer states it is suitable for outdoor use.
- Do not place food directly on surfaces not specified for food contact; use trays or liners.
- Do not handle plugs, switches or controls with wet hands nor use damaged cables or extension leads.
