Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Drowning or exhaustion due to powerful waves, rip currents and tides.
- Impacts with your own board, the rail or the fins, including leash snap-back (leash).
- Cuts and abrasions on rocky seabeds or reefs, and from contact with fins.
- Leash entanglement with rocks, seaweed or other objects.
- Collisions with other people, boards or watercraft in crowded areas.
- Loss of control of the board in the shorebreak or in strong winds, posing a risk to others.
- Exposure to cold or heat: hypothermia, dehydration and sunburn.
- Damage to the board (dings, cracks, loose fins) that reduce buoyancy and control.
- Accidents during transport and loading/unloading: falls from the vehicle or slips when handling a wet board.
Safe use
- Choose conditions suited to your level and check waves, wind, tides, access points and marked zones before entering.
- Always use a leash in good condition and properly attached; check that the fins and attachment points are secure.
- Keep a safe distance; avoid letting go of your board near others; protect your head when falling and do not dive headfirst in shallow water.
- Identify currents and channels; if a current carries you, stay calm and try to exit diagonally when it is safe.
- If the leash gets snagged, avoid sudden yanks and try to free it carefully only when it is safe to do so.
- Use appropriate protection for the temperature (wetsuit or rash vest), apply water-resistant sunscreen and stay hydrated.
- Respect priority rules and beach signage; enter and exit the water via clear areas and away from swimming zones.
- Avoid surfing alone in demanding conditions; tell someone your plan and stay within your level.
Storage and maintenance
- Rinse the board, fins and leash with fresh water after each use and dry them in the shade.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to sun or heat (inside the car or boot), which can warp or damage the board.
- Store it in a protective, ventilated bag; do not store it wet or with salt residue.
- Store horizontally on padded racks or vertically with protection on the tail; do not leave it propped on its tips or under weight.
- Regularly check for dings, cracks and play in fins and leash; repair or replace damaged parts before use.
- For transport, use suitable roof racks and straps; protect rails and fins and make sure there is no movement.
- Avoid solvents and harsh chemicals when cleaning the board.
Restrictions on use
- It is not a lifesaving or flotation device.
- Do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when extremely fatigued.
- Do not surf in prohibited areas, navigation channels, harbours or areas with swimmers.
- Do not use during thunderstorms or in very low visibility.
- Minors: always under the direct supervision of an adult and in conditions suited to their level and the water temperature.
- Do not modify or drill the board, fins or leash; use only compatible accessories.
- If the board has visible structural damage or the leash is worn, do not use it until it has been repaired or replaced.
- Those with physical limitations or recovering from an injury should avoid demanding conditions and opt for calm waters.
