Aquarium Wavemakers

Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Risk of electric shock from splashes, condensation or damaged cables.
  • Overheating or failure if the unit runs dry or is obstructed.
  • Accidental suction of fry, small invertebrates or plant debris.
  • Excessive currents that may stress fish and corals or lift the substrate.
  • Pinching or crush injuries from powerful magnets during installation.
  • Wavemaker falling due to poor attachment, with possible damage to the tank glass or the unit.
  • Noise and vibrations that may alter animal behaviour.
  • Splashes and salt build-up that may damage furniture, sockets and nearby accessories.

Safe use

  • Install the wavemaker with the mounting specified by the manufacturer and check it is secure before letting go.
  • Aim the flow to avoid direct jets at fish, corals, heaters or sensors; start on low power and adjust gradually.
  • Ensure the intake grille or guard is correctly fitted, especially if there are fry or invertebrates.
  • Always disconnect from the mains before putting your hands in the aquarium or moving the device.
  • Keep a drip loop in the cable and keep electrical connections in a dry place; water must not run down into the plug or socket.
  • Do not operate the unit out of water if it is designed for submersible use, or with the inlet/outlet blocked.
  • Avoid placing it too close to the surface if it causes splashing or draws in air.
  • Use only compatible accessories and controllers recommended by the manufacturer.

Storage and maintenance

  • Periodically clean grilles, rotor and impeller to remove algae, limescale and sediment; rinse well before reuse.
  • Frequently check the cable, housing, magnet/suction cups and mounts; replace any parts that are worn, cracked or corroded.
  • Switch off and wait for the rotor to come to a complete stop before removing the unit from the water.
  • Keep the power supply and controllers dry; clean them with a slightly damp cloth and never immerse them.
  • Monitor and remove salt build-up around the aquarium to prevent drips towards sockets or extension leads.
  • When storing, dry the unit completely and place it in a cool, dry location; keep magnets away from sensitive items.
  • Check the flow after each cleaning or any change in decoration/stocking and readjust if necessary.

Restrictions of use

  • Product for use in indoor aquariums; do not use outdoors without specific protection.
  • Not a toy; installation and handling by adults only. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not use with very small animals without an appropriate intake guard.
  • Do not operate if the cable, plug, housing, mount or magnet shows damage.
  • Do not cover water inlets or outlets or modify the device.
  • Do not direct the flow continuously at the substrate in aquariums with fine sand or at species sensitive to strong currents.
  • Do not use the unit with liquids other than aquarium water or during the application of concentrated chemicals.
