Usage Warnings
Workbenches
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Tipping over or collapse due to overloading or poor distribution of weight on the worktop and shelves.
- Finger trapping in hinges, folding mechanisms, height adjustment mechanisms, drawer runners or castors.
- Cuts, knocks, or falling tools and parts that are poorly secured on the work surface.
- Unintended movement of the bench during use, especially on uneven floors or with castors unlocked.
- Instability when applying lateral forces or using tools that generate vibration or thrust.
- Fire or burn hazard from sparks, heat or flammable substances on or near the bench.
- Injuries when moving or lifting the bench due to its weight or from trapping against walls and doors.
- Trips caused by cables, hoses or materials around the perimeter of the working area.
Safe use
- Always adhere to the load capacity stated by the manufacturer and distribute weight: heavy items centred and, where applicable, on lower shelves.
- Place the bench on a firm, level floor; adjust levellers and lock castors before working. Secure to a wall or floor if specified by the manufacturer.
- Check that folding, adjustment and locking mechanisms are correctly secured before loading or starting work.
- Use clamps to secure workpieces; keep hands away from clamping areas.
- Keep the worktop clear; remove shavings and wipe up oils or solvents immediately to prevent slips and staining.
- Manage cables and hoses so they do not cross walkways or snag on corners or castors.
- When moving the bench, clear the worktop and close drawers; push from the frame, not the worktop. Ask for assistance or use suitable handling aids if it is heavy.
- Protect the surface when using cutting tools, heat or chemicals; avoid cutting or drilling directly into the worktop if it is not designed for it.
- Use personal protective equipment appropriate to the task (for example, gloves, goggles, and hearing or respiratory protection where applicable).
Storage and maintenance
- Regularly clean dust, shavings and spills; dry liquids immediately to prevent warping, corrosion or bad odours.
- Periodically check screws, joints, legs, levellers, hinges, drawer runners and castors; tighten, lubricate or replace worn parts as per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Inspect the worktop: replace tops that are cracked, dented or splintered, as they may compromise stability or the secure clamping of workpieces.
- Avoid very heavy permanent loads on the worktop to prevent deformation; store bulky items in low areas.
- Store folding benches closed with the locks engaged to prevent accidental opening.
- Keep the bench in a dry, ventilated place, away from sources of direct heat and from the elements if it is not designed for outdoor use.
- Protect surfaces and metal parts following the manufacturer's recommendations to minimise corrosion and wear.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use as a ladder, elevated work platform, scaffold or seat.
- Do not exceed the maximum load or concentrate point loads in a small area of the worktop.
- Do not modify the structure (drilling, cutting or removing reinforcements) if it could affect its strength or stability.
- Do not use on unstable, steeply sloped or slippery floors.
- Do not move the bench with loose loads on top or with drawers open.
- Do not work with open flames, welding or sparks on the bench without adequate thermal protection and without removing nearby flammable materials.
- Do not place or operate equipment that generates significant vibrations without adequate fixing to the bench.
- Do not allow minors to use the bench without adult supervision, and do not leave dangerous tools within reach.
- Do not use outdoors if the product is not designed for it, nor expose it to rain or prolonged moisture.
