Usage Warnings
Electric Water Heaters
Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Electric shock due to faulty connections, damaged cables or moisture in electrical parts.
- Burns from high-temperature water or contact with hot surfaces of the water heater.
- Water leaks with risk of flooding and damage to the property.
- Overpressure in the tank if safety devices fail, with possible valve opening and sudden discharge of hot water.
- Structural damage or the water heater falling if it is not securely anchored, especially for wall-mounted and high-capacity models.
- Limescale build-up that reduces performance and may cause localised overheating.
- Frost damage in installations located in cold areas or without thermal protection.
- Hygiene risks if water remains stagnant for long periods or inappropriate temperatures are used.
Safe use
- Installation, anchoring and initial connections must be carried out by qualified personnel in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Connect the water heater to a suitable, earthed socket outlet and never use extension leads or multi-plug adaptors. Keep the cables and the connection terminal block dry and in good condition.
- Before any handling, disconnect the power supply and close the water shut-off valve.
- Ensure the safety valve is installed and has a free discharge to a drain; do not block or close it.
- Set the temperature to prevent scalding and use mixer taps where possible.
- Do not cover the water heater or obstruct any vents or surrounding ventilation spaces.
- Avoid direct splashes and do not spray water onto the water heater or its electrical connections.
- Regularly check for drips, unusual noises or burning smells; if any occur, switch the water heater off and request a service inspection.
Storage and maintenance
- Place the water heater in a dry, stable and accessible location, protected from frost and away from sources of extreme heat.
- Regularly check the fixings, flexible hoses and seals; replace any deteriorated components.
- Inspect and test the correct operation of the safety devices as per the manufacturer’s guidance.
- Carry out descaling and internal cleaning when appropriate, especially in hard-water areas, following the manual.
- Schedule periodic inspections by qualified service technicians to prevent failures and loss of efficiency.
- If the water heater will not be used for a prolonged period, disconnect it, shut off the water supply, and follow the draining and recommissioning procedure specified by the manufacturer.
Restrictions of use
- Not suitable for heating liquids other than water or for use as a space heater.
- Do not use the water heater outdoors, in vehicles or in areas without protection against weather or frost, unless the model is specifically designed for that purpose.
- Do not place weight on the water heater or hang objects from it or its pipework.
- Do not tamper with the interior of the water heater, thermostats, heating elements or wiring; do not make modifications.
- Do not operate the water heater with an empty tank or with an intermittent water supply that could cause overheating.
- Use by children or persons with reduced capabilities requires supervision by a responsible adult.
- Do not use the water heater if you detect advanced corrosion, impact damage to the tank, or signs of water in electrical parts.
