Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Fire due to proximity to combustible materials such as curtains, furniture, carpets or paper.
  • Burns from touching hot surfaces or air outlets.
  • Electric shock from damaged cables, wet plugs or incorrect connections.
  • Appliance tipping and falls, especially with tall or freestanding models.
  • Heat build-up from covering the unit or blocking the ventilation grilles.
  • Exposure to fumes or carbon monoxide from combustion appliances if ventilation is insufficient.
  • Fire risk due to dust, lint or debris on heating elements and air outlets.

Safe use

  • Place the heater on a stable, level surface, leaving clear space around it and keeping it away from textiles or flammable objects.
  • Do not cover the appliance or use it to dry clothes or shoes.
  • Plug electric models directly into a wall socket in good condition; avoid multi-way adaptors and extension leads.
  • Keep your hands dry when plugging in or unplugging, and switch off the appliance before moving it.
  • Do not leave it running unattended or while you sleep.
  • For combustion appliances (gas, pellet, paraffin, wood), use only the recommended fuel and ensure the room is adequately ventilated.
  • Consider installing a carbon monoxide detector in rooms where combustion appliances are used.
  • Avoid using the appliance in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the manufacturer explicitly states it is suitable.

Storage and maintenance

  • Unplug the appliance, allow it to cool, and dust grilles and surfaces with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Regularly inspect the cable, plug, switches and casing; if you notice any damage, do not use it.
  • Keep filters and air outlets free of dirt, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • For combustion equipment, check the condition of seals, flue/exhaust ducts and air inlets; have periodic inspections carried out by qualified personnel.
  • Store the appliance in a dry place, protected from impacts, and without objects on top that could deform it.
  • Store fuels (pellets, paraffin) in their original, sealed containers, away from heat sources and out of reach of children and pets.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use the appliance outdoors or in vehicles, caravans or very small, unventilated spaces unless it is designed for that purpose.
  • Do not use fuels other than those recommended or make DIY modifications.
  • Do not place it on soft or unstable surfaces, or in walkways where it could be knocked or tip over.
  • Do not use the heater near aerosols, solvents or other atmospheres with flammable vapours.
  • Do not run the cable under carpets or pinch it with furniture.
  • Do not allow use by children or by persons with reduced mobility or impaired perception without appropriate supervision.
  • For gas installations or those with a flue, installation and inspections must be carried out by qualified personnel.
