Usage Warnings
Sills and Drip Edges
Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Cuts from sharp edges on metal, ceramic or stone profiles.
- Falls and slips when working at height (façades, windows, roofs).
- Impact or crush injuries when moving long or heavy pieces.
- Dust and fragments being thrown out when cutting or drilling.
- Skin or respiratory irritation from the use of adhesives, sealants or foams.
- Injury or damage from tools or materials falling onto people or property below.
- Leaks and damp if installation is poor or the drip path is blocked.
- Accidental penetration of cables, pipes or other concealed services.
Safe use
- Use cut-resistant gloves, safety goggles and a mask when cutting or sanding; a safety helmet, safety footwear and fall-arrest systems when working at height.
- Measure and dry-fit the piece before fixing it, checking the overhang and the drip groove so that water falls clear of the wall face.
- Handle pieces with two people when their length or weight requires it, and protect the edges during transport.
- Work on stable, well-supported scaffolds or ladders; cordon off the area below to prevent passage beneath the work area.
- Make cuts and holes with tools appropriate to the material, on a firm surface with the piece secured.
- Before drilling, use a detector to check for concealed services and avoid damaging waterproofing.
- Apply compatible adhesives or sealants in ventilated areas, avoiding skin contact and without blocking the water path; observe curing times.
- Avoid installing in rain, strong winds, frost, or on wet or dusty surfaces.
- On completion, check with a small amount of water that drainage is correct and that there is no backflow towards the façade.
Storage and maintenance
- Store in a dry, ventilated place, horizontally on a flat surface, protecting the edges and avoiding warping or deformation.
- Do not over-stack or place weight on fragile pieces; separate them with protection to prevent scratches.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to sun or extreme heat where the material could deform or discolour.
- Keep adhesives and sealants tightly closed and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Periodically clear leaves, soil and dirt from the drip groove and the drainage area to prevent blockages.
- Use water and a neutral detergent; avoid abrasives or highly acidic or alkaline products that could damage finishes and joints.
- Regularly check for cracks, corrosion, spalling or detachment, loose fixings and the condition of seals; repair or replace if you detect any looseness.
- After storms, frosts or impacts, inspect for possible damage before resuming normal use.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use the drip edge as a step, seat, ladder support or anchorage point.
- Do not hang plant pots, washing lines or other items that add load without verifying the load capacity of the assembly.
- Do not cut, bend or drill areas that affect the drip groove or the integrity of the piece unless specified by the manufacturer.
- Do not fully seal the drip edge or obstruct the water outlet.
- Do not install on unstable, friable, damp or dusty substrates without first preparing the surface.
- Do not expose the material to aggressive chemical agents or saline environments without the manufacturer’s recommended protection.
- Do not leave loose or unfixed pieces on sills or edges where they could fall.
- Only carry out work at height if you have the proper training and equipment; otherwise, use qualified personnel.
