Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls from the top bunk or while climbing up and down the ladder.
  • Entrapment between guard rails, mattress and wall if gaps are present.
  • Bumps against the ceiling, light fittings or hanging items when sitting up on the top bunk.
  • Instability or breakage due to incorrect assembly, loose screws or damaged parts.
  • Slips on wet rungs or when climbing in socks.
  • Strangulation from cords, blind cords or hanging toys near the bunk bed.
  • Risk of burns or overheating if placed next to radiators or heaters.

Safe use

  • Assembly by adults, following the manufacturer’s instructions and using all supplied fixings and fittings.
  • Check the frame is stable and level; if provided for the model, install the anchoring systems specified by the manufacturer.
  • Secure the guard rails and ladder firmly before use; check their fixings regularly.
  • Use a mattress of the recommended size and height so the guard rails can do their job; do not add extra mattresses or thick toppers on the top bunk.
  • Climb up and down facing the ladder, using both hands and one rung at a time; fit a night light to make access easier in the dark.
  • Keep the upper area and the ladder clear of toys, clothing and other obstacles.
  • Leave sufficient clearance to the ceiling and avoid placing the bunk bed under ceiling fans or hanging lights.
  • Avoid gaps between the frame, mattress and wall; push the bed up to the wall or reposition it to reduce them, as recommended by the manufacturer.

Storage and maintenance

  • Check screws, joints, guard rails, slats/bed base and rungs monthly; retighten if necessary.
  • After moving or relocating the bed, carry out a full check of stability and fixings.
  • Do not use the bunk bed if there are cracked, deformed or loose parts; replace only with compatible spares from the manufacturer.
  • Keep rungs and surfaces dry and clean to prevent slipping; remove dust and debris that could loosen joints.
  • Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth and non-abrasive products; avoid prolonged moisture.
  • Air the mattresses regularly and follow the manufacturer’s turn/rotation recommendations.
  • If disassembled, store fixings and parts together, labelled and out of the reach of children, in a dry place.

Restrictions of use

  • The top bunk is not suitable for children under 6 years.
  • One person per mattress only; observe the maximum load specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not jump from the bunk bed or use the frame as a play area, swing or gym.
  • Do not remove the guard rails from the top bunk or modify the frame or ladder.
  • Do not place the bunk bed beneath or near ceiling fans, hanging lights or windows with cords or unsecured blinds.
  • Do not use outdoors or in damp areas.
  • Supervise children when they climb up or down, especially at night or if they are tired.
  • Do not allow pets or very young children to play on the ladder or under the top bunk.
