Main risks
- Electric shock from contact with live parts, even after apparent disconnection (presence of residual energy, PV panels and inverters that continue to generate).
- Electric arc and ejection of sparks when opening direct-current circuits or withdrawing fuses under load.
- Fire or overheating due to incorrect selection of the fuse/protective device or loose connections.
- Equipment damage due to insufficient protection against overcurrents or overvoltages.
- Deterioration due to moisture, dust or corrosion that can cause unexpected failures.
- Burns when touching components that have operated at high load or after a trip.
- Risk of short-circuit due to reversed polarity or improper handling of terminals in renewable energy systems.
Safe use
- Verify that the fuse or protective device is compatible with the system: type (AC/DC), rated voltage and current, and breaking capacity as specified by the manufacturer.
- Before working, disconnect all energy sources (mains, inverter, batteries) and, in photovoltaic systems, cover or isolate the panels where possible; verify absence of voltage with a suitable instrument.
- Do not withdraw or insert fuses or open fuse holders under load unless the device is designed for that operation.
- Observe polarity in direct-current circuits and the installation direction indicated by the manufacturer.
- Use compatible fuse bases, fuse holders and isolators in good condition; avoid components that are damaged, cracked or show signs of arcing.
- Tighten terminals according to the manufacturer's instructions and avoid undersized or poorly stripped conductors.
- Do not bypass fuses or disable protections; if a device trips or a fuse blows, identify the cause before resetting or re-energising.
- Use insulated tools and appropriate personal protective equipment (insulating gloves, safety goggles) during handling.
- Keep the installation area clear and avoid combustible materials near parts that may heat up.
Storage and maintenance
- Store products in a dry, clean and ventilated place, away from moisture, dust and sources of heat or direct sunlight.
- Keep components in their original packaging until installation to protect contacts and calibrations.
- Carry out periodic inspections, looking for discolouration, burning smell, arc marks, corrosion or loosened terminals.
- Remove dust with a dry cloth; avoid solvents or water on surfaces and contacts.
- Replace without delay any blown fuse, damaged fuse holder or protective device with an end-of-life indicator; do not attempt to repair them.
- After storms, mains surges or short-circuits, check the condition of protective devices, especially surge protection.
- Check that connections remain tight over time, especially in installations subject to vibration or thermal cycling.
Restrictions on use
- Installation, modification and maintenance to be carried out by personnel qualified in electrical systems, especially in high-voltage or direct-current circuits.
- Do not use these products outside the voltage, current, frequency or temperature ranges specified by the manufacturer.
- Avoid use in environments with water, airborne dust or potentially explosive atmospheres if the device is not designed for it.
- Do not mix fuses of different characteristics in the same circuit or replace them with non-equivalent models.
- Do not handle with wet hands or with jewellery or exposed metallic items.
- Do not modify, drill or open sealed devices; replace the assembly if damaged.
- Keep these products out of the reach of children and people unfamiliar with their use.
- Do not work on photovoltaic installations during electrical storms or with modules exposed to direct light without appropriate safety measures.
