Usage Warnings

Swing Grab Bars

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls due to inadequate fixing, deterioration of the bar, or exceeding the rated load.
  • Pinching or finger entrapment at the hinge and moving parts when folding it down.
  • Impacts due to abrupt folding/unfolding or unintentional release.
  • Slips if the hand or the surface of the bar are wet or soapy.
  • Deterioration due to corrosion in humid environments that reduces structural strength.
  • Damage to the wall or tiles and possible detachment due to inadequate fixings.
  • Risk of drilling into electrical cables or water pipes during installation.

Safe use

  • Before each use, visually check and apply a light load to ensure the bar is secure and free of play.
  • Fold and lock/unlock gently, keeping fingers away from the hinge and the locking point.
  • Apply weight progressively; avoid jerks, swinging or sudden lateral loads.
  • Keep the grip clean and as dry as possible; remove any soap, oils or limescale residues that reduce grip.
  • Use the bar within your comfortable reach; avoid awkward postures that compromise balance.
  • If you notice unusual noises, play, rust or deformation, stop using the bar until its fixings have been checked.
  • During installation, take extreme care when drilling and check in advance that there are no cables or pipes in the wall.

Storage and maintenance

  • When not in use and space is limited, keep the bar folded to prevent accidental knocks.
  • Clean regularly with water and a mild, pH-neutral soap; avoid abrasives or chlorinated products unless specified by the manufacturer.
  • Dry after use to minimise corrosion and limescale build-up.
  • Periodically check screws, fixings, the hinge and the locking mechanism; if any loosening is found, retighten in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Lightly lubricate the hinge only if permitted by the manufacturer and prevent lubricant from reaching the floor to avoid slipping.
  • After a heavy impact or a fall in which the bar has borne weight, inspect it and replace it if you observe any deformation or cracks.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use as a step, exercise bar, coat rack or to hang heavy objects.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight recommended by the manufacturer or apply dynamic loads.
  • Do not install or use on hollow or damaged walls, or where tiles are loose; repair the surface before fixing it.
  • Installation and fixing should be carried out by competent persons using fixings suitable for the wall type.
  • In households with children, prevent them from playing with the bar; children should only use it under supervision to prevent swinging or entrapment.
  • Do not use the bar if it shows play, advanced corrosion, loose screws or fixings, or cracked parts.
  • Avoid installing in areas with a risk of electrical contact or without first checking for concealed wiring or pipework.
