Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Risk of electric shock: panels generate DC voltage in the presence of light, even diffuse light; sparks or arcing may occur when connecting or disconnecting under load.
  • Fire or overheating caused by short circuits, damaged cables, loose connections or the use of incompatible equipment.
  • Falls and impacts during installation at height; injuries due to the panel's weight and sharp edges.
  • Burns from hot surfaces, and glare or eye strain from intense reflections.
  • Damage from wind, hail or storms, and water ingress into connectors; objects may become dislodged if fixings are inadequate.
  • Trips and snags due to loose or poorly routed cabling.

Safe use

  • Follow the specific instructions of the panel manufacturer and associated equipment (charge controller, inverter, battery).
  • Work in the shade or temporarily cover the panel to reduce voltage before connecting or disconnecting; wear appropriate gloves and eye protection.
  • Check polarity and voltage/current compatibility; avoid connecting or disconnecting under load; use suitable photovoltaic connectors, fully mated, with no makeshift splices.
  • Install on a firm, compatible structure, with appropriate anchors and clearance for ventilation; do not drill or modify the panel unless explicitly instructed; do not step on it or place weight on it.
  • Route and secure the cabling to avoid pinching, abrasion or pulling; protect it from sharp edges, heat and moisture; incorporate electrical protection (fuse or switch) as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Keep the panel and connectors away from flames, sparks and flammable materials; do not cover the panel or allow prolonged partial shading that could create hot spots.
  • Avoid handling in rain or during electrical storms; if intervention is required, disconnect the system first and ensure the connectors are dry.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store panels in a dry, ventilated place, protected from moisture and extreme temperatures; keep the protective packaging and do not stack weight on top of them.
  • Protect connectors with their caps and keep them clean and dry; avoid contact with metallic objects that could cause short circuits.
  • Periodically inspect cables, connectors, frames, fixings and the panel surface; if you observe cracks, delamination, discolouration or looseness, stop using the product.
  • Clean with water and a soft cloth; avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive brushes and high-pressure jets, especially on connectors and the junction box.
  • Regularly check and secure the screws and mounts; remove accumulated leaves and debris to aid ventilation and reduce fire risk.
  • For transport and handling, use corner protection, hold by the frame and, for large panels, carry them with two people; do not pull or lift by the cable.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not open or modify the junction box, wiring or connectors; do not drill the glass or the backsheet.
  • Do not use the panel if it is damaged, bent or with stripped cables; do not use it as a platform, step or structural element.
  • Do not use the panel with charge controllers, batteries or inverters that are not compatible with its voltage and power; always observe the limits specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not install or use in atmospheres with flammable gases or dust, or in locations where it could become submerged.
  • Do not handle the system during electrical storms or touch wet components.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets; avoid leaving cables accessible.
  • Roof installations, large-scale systems or any connection to the electricity grid must be carried out by qualified personnel with appropriate fall-protection measures.
