Usage Warnings

Vacuum Pumps for Air Conditioning

Safety warnings and precautions

Main hazards

  • Hot surfaces on the motor and exhaust port that can cause burns during and after use.
  • Inhalation of oil mist and refrigerant vapours, especially in poorly ventilated spaces.
  • Electrical risk from damaged cables, plugs without an earth, or the presence of moisture.
  • Oil spills and splashes when the pump is tipped over or when disconnecting hoses.
  • Oil contamination by moisture or liquid refrigerant that can damage the pump and reduce its performance.
  • Oil backflow into the circuit if it is switched off or disconnected without closing valves.
  • Sudden disconnection of hoses or fittings under vacuum, with possible impact injuries or air ingress.
  • Risk of implosion if vacuum is applied to containers or components not designed to withstand it.
  • Noise and vibration; possible entrapment in grilles or the fan if mishandled.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions before first use.
  • Use safety goggles and oil-resistant gloves; wear closed-toe footwear.
  • Ensure good ventilation; direct the exhaust away from people and, where applicable, use an oil-mist filter/separator.
  • Check that the supply voltage and an earthed plug are suitable. Do not use with wet hands or in the rain.
  • Place the pump on a firm, stable surface in an upright position; do not obstruct ventilation.
  • Check the level and type of the recommended oil; do not operate without oil or with cloudy or milky oil.
  • Use clean, dry hoses, manifold and fittings compatible with vacuum and refrigerants; tighten without over-tightening.
  • Recover the system refrigerant beforehand with appropriate equipment; do not vent refrigerants to the atmosphere.
  • Avoid ingress of liquid refrigerant or solvents; do not use the pump with flammable or toxic gases.
  • Close the manifold valves or use a non-return valve before switching off to prevent oil backflow.
  • Monitor temperature, noises and vibrations during operation; stop the pump if any abnormalities occur.
  • Disconnect from the mains before changing oil, filters or accessories.

Storage and maintenance

  • Allow to cool before moving or storing; carry by the handle, never by the cable.
  • Store it clean, dry and upright, with the ports capped to prevent the ingress of dust.
  • Keep grilles and ventilation areas free of dirt; clean the housing regularly.
  • Change the oil according to use or when it appears contaminated (cloudy/milky); use oil specifically for vacuum pumps.
  • Periodically check cables, plug, seals, oil sight glass, valves and fittings; replace any damaged component.
  • If your model includes it, clean or replace the exhaust filter/separator.
  • At the end of the job, close the inlets and, if the manual indicates, run briefly to help expel moisture.
  • Protect the pump from impacts, severe vibration, dust and moisture during transport and storage.
  • Manage used oils and contaminated rags responsibly to prevent spills.

Restrictions of use

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets; not for recreational use.
  • Product intended for persons with training or experience in air conditioning/refrigeration.
  • Do not use in potentially explosive atmospheres or near flames, sparks or cigarettes.
  • Do not pump liquids, fuels, solvents, breathable air or toxic gases.
  • Do not apply vacuum to containers, bottles or other items not designed to withstand it.
  • Do not modify the pump or use accessories not recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not operate the pump if there are oil leaks, visible damage or a burning odour.
  • Do not use outdoors in the rain or on unstable surfaces; avoid coiled extension leads that may overheat.
  • Do not lift or drag by the hoses or cable; secure the load in vehicles to prevent tipping.
  • Do not use the pump as a compressor or for purposes other than evacuating air-conditioning systems.
