Car Seats

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Serious injury due to incorrect installation or routing the seat belt through the wrong guides.
  • Ejection or increased movement during sudden braking if the harness is loose, twisted, or poorly adjusted to shoulder height.
  • Injury from front airbag deployment when the seat is rear-facing on the front passenger seat.
  • Positional asphyxia in infants if the recline angle is inappropriate or if the head falls forward.
  • Burns or irritation from buckles and fabrics overheated by the sun inside the vehicle.
  • Entrapment or pinching by moving parts if the child manipulates buckles or adjusters.
  • Interference from non-original accessories or loose objects that could become projectiles.
  • Risk of heatstroke when leaving the child in the car, even with the windows ajar.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the car seat and vehicle manuals; each model may require specific steps.
  • Choose and use a seat appropriate for the child’s height and weight; adjust the orientation and headrest as they grow.
  • Install the seat using the specified method (vehicle anchor points or seat belt), without combining systems unless permitted by the manufacturer.
  • Before each journey, make sure the seat does not move excessively at its base and that the straps lie flat without twists.
  • Tighten the harness snugly, with no slack; avoid bulky clothing. Use thin layers and, if necessary, place a blanket over the top after buckling up.
  • If the seat is rear-facing, do not place it on a seat with an active front airbag. Preferably, position it on the rear seats.
  • Ensure the recommended recline angle for newborns and take frequent breaks on long journeys.
  • Remove loose objects from the cabin and do not add cushions, inserts or covers not intended for that model.
  • Check that the buckles click and release correctly; if they become soiled with sand or liquids, clean them before use.

Storage and maintenance

  • Regularly inspect the shell, base, guides and harness for cracks, deformation, wear or damaged stitching.
  • Clean surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent; wash covers only as instructed and refit them correctly.
  • Do not lubricate buckles or locking mechanisms; keep them clean and dry to prevent malfunctions.
  • Air-dry, away from direct heat sources, to avoid deforming plastics or padding.
  • Store the seat in a dry, ventilated place out of the sun; avoid placing weight on top that could deform it.
  • Keep the manual and any additional parts; check that caps, guides or padding are not missing before each use.
  • If the seat suffers a heavy fall, visible damage or has been involved in a collision, stop using it and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Observe the indicative service life specified by the manufacturer and replace the seat when due.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use a rear-facing seat on a seat with an active front airbag.
  • Do not use the seat if parts are missing, if the harness is cut or if the buckle does not fasten and release normally.
  • Do not use accessories, inserts, covers or cushions that are not specific to that model.
  • Do not modify the seat or carry out makeshift repairs (gluing, drilling, adding screws or straps).
  • Do not use the seat if it does not match the child’s size or weight, or if it does not allow them to be fastened snugly and securely.
  • Do not place the seat on tables, sofas or pushchairs as a rocker; it is intended for use in the vehicle.
  • Never leave the child alone in the car or exposed to direct sunlight; ventilate the cabin before seating them.
  • Avoid second-hand seats if their history is unknown, if they may have suffered previous impacts, or if they lack identifiable instructions.
