Pet Food and Water Bowls

Warnings and Safety Precautions

Main risks

  • Accidental ingestion of small parts (caps, valves, filters, suction cups) or fragments if the container breaks, posing a choking hazard.
  • Cuts or injuries from sharp edges, splinters or cracks in plastic, ceramic or glass.
  • Growth of bacteria, biofilm or mould due to food residues and stagnant water.
  • Spills that may cause slips, bad odours or attract insects.
  • Blockages or drips in valve drinkers that limit access to water.
  • For corded fountains or dispensers: risk of cable chewing, pulling, moisture at connections or overheating if used improperly.
  • Burns or irritation if excessively hot liquids or foods are poured in.
  • Awkward postures or eating/drinking too quickly that may cause discomfort.

Safe use

  • Choose a size and shape suitable for the animal; avoid containers that are too deep for flat-faced animals.
  • Place the food/water bowl on a stable, non-slip surface, away from high-traffic areas.
  • Check daily for cracks, splinters and loose parts; replace the product if damaged.
  • Change the water daily and clean the bowl after using wet or sticky food; rinse thoroughly to remove detergent residues.
  • For spout- or valve-type drinkers, check the flow and secure attachment to the cage or mount.
  • For electric fountains or dispensers, protect the cable from chewing, keep the plug dry and unplug before cleaning or refilling.
  • Avoid pouring in very hot liquids or food; allow them to cool before refilling.
  • Supervise the first few uses to ensure the animal can access water and food without difficulty and does not chew parts.

Storage and maintenance

  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning and, if possible, disassemble parts to prevent trapped moisture.
  • Replace filters, seals or nozzles when they show wear, bad odours or reduced flow.
  • Remove limescale and biofilm with pet-safe methods and rinse thoroughly before reuse.
  • Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost that may deform or crack the material.
  • Store clean containers in a dry, ventilated place; avoid stacking with weight that may deform them.
  • Periodically check suction cups, screws and mounts; retighten or replace if they lose hold.
  • Keep spare parts and tools out of reach of children and pets.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use as a toy or chew toy.
  • Do not use containers that are damaged, deformed, rusty or with flaking coatings.
  • Do not heat in a microwave or oven, nor pour in boiling liquids, unless the product is designed for this.
  • Do not use harsh cleaners or concentrated bleach that may leave residues; do not mix chemicals.
  • Do not use the same food/water bowl for multiple species if the size or design is not suitable.
  • Do not hang additional weight from cage drinkers or force threads or mounts.
  • Do not leave electric fountains within reach of animals that tend to chew cables without supervision.
  • Do not store food for long periods in containers that are not dispensers designed for this purpose.
