Shower Wall Panels
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts from sharp edges and when handling or cutting the panels.
- Impacts or pinch/crush injuries when moving large or heavy pieces.
- Inhalation of dust and vapours from adhesives and sealants in poorly ventilated spaces.
- Damage to plumbing or electrical wiring when drilling into the wall.
- Detachment due to inadequate fixing, with a risk of parts falling.
- Leaks, swelling or mould due to poor sealing at joints and perimeters.
- Surface damage from abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Warping or discolouration from exposure to intense heat or prolonged direct sunlight.
Safe use
- Ensure the wall is sound, dry, clean and reasonably flat before installation.
- Locate hidden services before drilling; use a suitable detector where possible.
- Handle and position the panels with two people when size or weight requires. Wear gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when cutting or sanding.
- Work in well-ventilated areas when applying adhesives and sealants. Keep sources of heat or sparks away and observe the manufacturer’s curing times before wetting the area.
- Apply continuous sealing at junctions, corners and penetrations. Use profiles and accessories compatible with the system.
- Check alignment during installation and apply even pressure to ensure contact with the supporting wall.
- Keep a safe distance from heat sources (radiators, heat lamps) and avoid direct contact with very hot steam.
- To hang accessories (towel rails, shelves), fix the loads to the load-bearing wall with appropriate anchors, unless the panel system specifies otherwise.
Storage and maintenance
- Store panels flat on a level surface or vertically with good support, protecting edges and corners.
- Avoid excessive humidity, direct sunlight and sources of heat during storage and transport.
- Allow the panels to acclimatise to the bathroom as recommended by the manufacturer before installation.
- Clean with a soft cloth and water with a neutral detergent. Avoid abrasive scourers, concentrated bleach, acids or solvents.
- Dry the surfaces after use to reduce limescale build-up and moisture at the joints.
- Periodically check joints and sealant; repair or renew the sealant if you notice cracks, mould or detachment.
- Avoid impacts, point loads and supports that could mark or cause the panels to come away.
- If you need to drill after installation, check again for hidden services and correctly seal any penetration in wet areas.
Restrictions of use
- Do not install on unstable walls, with loose or crumbling material, active damp or leaks without prior repair.
- Do not use the panels submerged or in areas of extreme heat or direct flame. Check compatibility with shower enclosures before exposing them to constant water.
- Do not use the panels as a structural element, nor hang heavy furniture directly from them unless using systems specifically designed for this.
- Do not mix incompatible adhesives, primers or sealants; use products specified for the panel material and for wet areas.
- Do not allow children to handle tools, adhesives or sealants. Keep pets and children away from the work area during installation and curing.
- People with respiratory sensitivity should avoid exposure to dust and vapours during cutting, gluing and sealing.
