Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Entrapment due to gaps between mattress and bed base, headboard, side rails or wall; risk of suffocation especially in babies.
- Falls from a bed that is too high, or from the mattress slipping on an incompatible or unstable base.
- Injuries when moving the mattress due to its weight and bulk (strains, knocks, trapped fingers).
- Fire or burns if exposed to flames, cigarettes, candles or heating appliances.
- Damp, mould and proliferation of dust mites if it is not aired or protected, with possible allergic reactions.
- Initial odours after unpacking that may be bothersome for sensitive individuals and require ventilation.
Safe use
- Check that the mattress size matches the bed and that no gaps remain; use a stable base in good condition.
- Unpack in a clear area and air the room; cut the plastic carefully to avoid damaging the fabric.
- If it arrives rolled, allow it to regain its shape before use, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Move the mattress with two people, hold it by the sides and clear the route to prevent trips.
- Keep it away from flames, heaters and other sources of heat; do not smoke in bed.
- Use a breathable protector to reduce stains, dust mites and moisture; clean up spills immediately.
- Turn or rotate the mattress periodically according to the manufacturer's recommendations for more even wear.
- Ensure the mattress does not overhang the bed base and cannot slip during use.
Storage and maintenance
- Place and store the mattress in dry, ventilated areas; avoid damp basements and exposure to the elements.
- Do not bend or fold it by force; avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on top.
- For transport or storage, protect it with a breathable cover and avoid hermetically sealing it in plastic for prolonged periods.
- Air the bed regularly and vacuum the surface to reduce dust and dust mites.
- Periodically check the seams and the bed base; repair or replace damaged components.
- If you detect damp, mould, infestations or a strong, persistent odour, stop using it until the entire set-up has been fully cleaned and treated.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use adult mattresses in cots or playpens; for babies use a specific mattress that fits snugly.
- On bunk beds, use a mattress of the thickness recommended by the manufacturer to maintain the effectiveness of the side rails.
- Avoid jumping or standing on the mattress; this can cause falls and damage to its structure.
- Do not cover the mattress with plastic or other waterproof materials during use; they can trap heat and make breathing more difficult.
- Do not use electric blankets, heated mattress toppers or heating pads unless the manufacturer states compatibility.
- Supervise use by young children, older adults or people with reduced mobility, and keep bulky items out of babies' sleep environments.
