Laser and Spirit Levels
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Eye injuries from direct or reflected exposure to the laser beam.
- Trips, falls or knocks from tripods, cables and unstable supports.
- Levelling errors due to loss of calibration, dirt, vibrations or incorrect placement.
- Damage from equipment drops or from magnetised fixings coming loose.
- Risks with batteries or cells: leakage, overheating or short-circuiting.
- Breakage of vials in spirit levels and possible contact with the liquid.
- Trapping or pinching with magnetic bases and magnets; unexpected attraction of metal parts.
- Glare to third parties (drivers or operators) from unintentional projection of the beam.
Safe use
- Check the laser class and follow the manufacturer's instructions before first use.
- Do not look at the beam or point it at people, animals, vehicles or highly reflective surfaces (mirrors, polished metal, glass).
- Place the level on a stable base; secure the tripod or mount and keep the access area clear.
- Verify accuracy before critical tasks by performing a check in both directions or against a reliable reference.
- Keep the optical window and vials clean; wipe with a soft, dry cloth, without solvents or abrasives.
- At height, use the equipment with appropriate fixings where applicable and take extra care on ladders and scaffolding.
- Insert batteries with the correct polarity; do not mix new and used batteries; if rechargeable, use only the specified charger and avoid unattended charging.
- Switch off the laser when moving it and, if it has a pendulum lock, engage it for transport.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the tool clean and dry, preferably in its case, protected from dust, moisture and impacts.
- Avoid extreme temperatures, prolonged sunlight, rain or frost that may affect the electronics, optics or vials.
- Remove the batteries if you are not going to use the equipment for a prolonged period to reduce the risk of leakage.
- Periodically check the accuracy and recalibrate according to the manufacturer's instructions, especially after drops or impacts.
- If it includes a magnetic base, keep the contact surface free of metal filings to prevent it coming loose.
- Inspect housings, windows and vials; if you notice cracks, looseness or corrosion, stop using it until it has been inspected.
Restrictions on use
- Not a toy: keep out of the reach of children and do not allow use without adult supervision.
- Do not use to point at the sky, at moving vehicles or at people.
- Do not use with a broken housing, cracked windows, damaged vials, or with swollen or leaking batteries or cells.
- Do not open, modify or tamper with internal components.
- Do not use it in heavy rain, immersion or other environments for which the product is not rated.
- Keep magnets away from pacemakers, magnetic cards and devices sensitive to magnetic fields.
- Do not use the tool as a support, lever or for striking.
- In shared spaces, signpost the work area to prevent the beam from reaching third parties.
