Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts and punctures when unearthing sharp metal objects or buried fragments.
- Trips, falls and sprains due to uneven terrain, freshly dug holes or loose equipment cables.
- Strain and discomfort in the back, shoulders and wrists from poor posture or prolonged use.
- Accidental contact with buried electrical cables or pipes while digging.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous objects (e.g., munitions, ordnance, pressurised containers) below ground.
- Water damage to non-waterproof equipment and possible device failure if moisture enters.
- Hearing injury and reduced situational awareness from using headphones at high volume.
- Possible interference with active medical implants due to the search coil's electromagnetic field.
Safe use
- Plan your work area and avoid areas with traffic, cliffs, unstable banks or changing tides.
- Adjust the equipment height to keep your back straight; alternate arms and take frequent breaks.
- Secure the coil cable and keep the walking path clear to reduce trip hazards.
- Wear sturdy gloves and closed-toe footwear; retrieve finds with an appropriate tool, avoiding putting your hand directly into the hole.
- Avoid digging in locations where underground utilities may exist; if in doubt, do not dig further.
- If you detect an object that may be dangerous or unknown, do not handle or move it; move away calmly.
- Keep headphone volume moderate and maintain awareness of your surroundings, especially in public areas or near roads.
- Do not use the detector during thunderstorms; do not submerge or wet components that are not designed for it.
- Backfill and compact holes to prevent accidents involving other people or animals.
- If you have active medical implants, keep the coil away from your chest and take extra precautions; stop use if you feel any discomfort.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean the coil and chassis after each use to remove sand, mud and salt; dry completely before storing.
- Periodically check screws, fasteners, cable and connectors; replace any damaged or cracked parts.
- Batteries: use the recommended type; do not mix new and used or different chemistries. Charge on a non-flammable surface, uncovered and under supervision.
- Do not leave the equipment charging overnight or exposed to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Remove the batteries if you will not use the detector for an extended period, or if you notice leakage, swelling or an unusual odour.
- Store the detector in a dry, ventilated place, protected from impacts, dust and extreme temperatures.
Restrictions of use
- Use by minors only under adult supervision; keep small parts and batteries out of their reach.
- Do not use it to locate buried utilities for construction, drilling or trenching.
- Avoid use in the vicinity of sensitive electronic equipment, airports or critical facilities.
- Do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when extremely fatigued.
- Do not use in very low-visibility conditions without adequate lighting, nor in flooded areas or in heavy surf.
- Do not open or modify the equipment; improper handling may cause malfunctions and additional risks.
