Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts and lacerations from contact with the blade teeth during use, transport, or blade changes.
- Ejection of chips or splinters when cutting wood, plastics, or metal, with possible eye or skin injury.
- Blade breakage or detachment due to excessive force, poor workpiece clamping, or defects in the blade.
- Finger trapping or pinching in folding mechanisms or bow saw frames.
- Slippage of the saw if the surface or hands are wet or oily, or if the workpiece is not properly secured.
- Inhalation of dust, especially when cutting boards, treated timber, or synthetic materials.
- Fatigue, blisters, or repetitive strain injuries due to improper technique or posture.
- Cuts from burrs or sharp edges on the workpiece after cutting.
Safe use
- Inspect the tool before use: blade straight with no broken teeth, handle firm and free of cracks.
- Choose the right saw for the material and type of cut; do not force the tool if it binds.
- Secure the workpiece with clamps or on a stable bench. Avoid holding it by hand near the cut line.
- Keep hands behind the teeth and cut away from your body, using smooth, controlled strokes.
- Wear safety goggles and close-fitting cut-resistant gloves; wear a dust mask when fine dust is generated.
- Check that there are no nails, screws, cables, or other objects in the cutting path.
- On folding saws, ensure the lock is fully engaged before cutting; on bow saws, adjust the blade tension without over-tightening.
- Keep the work area clean, well lit, and free of obstacles or slippery surfaces.
- Replace worn or damaged blades safely and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- For transport, cover the blade with a guard or fold the saw; carry the tool with the tip pointing downwards.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean off dust, resin, and debris after each use; dry the blade and apply a thin layer of anti-corrosion oil when necessary.
- Store the saw with a blade guard, folded or in its case, in a dry, ventilated place.
- Avoid knocks and contact with other tools that could nick the teeth; use organisers or hangers.
- Periodically check screws, bolts, tensioners, and the condition of the handle; replace damaged parts.
- Sharpen or replace the blade when it loses effectiveness to avoid forcing the cut.
- Dispose of used blades by wrapping them to cover the teeth and placing them in a suitable sharps container.
Usage restrictions
- Not a toy: keep out of reach of children. Use only by competent persons.
- Do not use the saw above shoulder height or in unstable positions, such as on unsecured ladders.
- Do not cut live electrical cables or pressurised pipes; ensure they are de-energised or empty before working nearby.
- Do not use the saw as a lever, hammer, or for purposes other than its intended cutting use.
- Do not modify the tool or fit blades that are not compatible with the model.
- Do not work if you are fatigued, under the influence of alcohol, or taking medication that reduces alertness.
