Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Severe cuts and injuries from contact with the moving router cutter or biscuit joiner blade.
- Flying chips, dust and fragments that can damage eyes and skin.
- Kickback and sudden jerks if the tool snags or is fed in the wrong direction, with a risk of loss of control.
- Inhalation of wood dust (especially from hardwoods and sheet materials), with possible respiratory irritation.
- Prolonged noise and vibration which may cause fatigue and discomfort.
- Electrical risk from damaged cables, faulty plugs or use in damp areas.
- Minor burns from accessories heating up after heavy use.
- Damage to the workpiece and the tool when striking hidden nails, screws or other foreign objects.
Safe use
- Always wear safety goggles, hearing protection and a suitable dust mask. Tie back long hair and avoid loose clothing or jewellery.
- Secure the workpiece with clamps or stops; do not work with the piece unsecured and never use your hand as a stop.
- Check that the router cutter or biscuit joiner blade is compatible with the model and firmly secured. Disconnect the tool or remove the battery before changing accessories or adjusting the depth.
- Run the tool up off-load and wait until it reaches a steady speed before contacting the wood.
- Make light passes at a moderate feed rate, keeping both hands on the handles. Do not force the cut.
- With routers, follow the direction of feed recommended by the manufacturer to reduce the risk of snagging and kickback.
- With biscuit joiners, keep the full base flat on the surface, align the fence and press in a controlled manner; wait for the blade to stop or retract fully before removing the machine.
- Keep the cable and battery away from the cutting area and sharp edges. Where possible, use a parallel fence, template guides or guide rails.
- Connect a dust extraction system or use a collection bag to reduce dust and improve visibility.
Storage and maintenance
- Switch off, unplug or remove the battery before any cleaning, adjustment or accessory change.
- Regularly remove dust from the housing, ventilation grilles, base and adjustment mechanisms to prevent build-up.
- Check the condition of the cable, plug, switch, shrouds and moving guards; do not use the tool if any are damaged.
- Check router cutters and blades for wear; replace any that are chipped, dull or cracked.
- Verify that the collet, nut, fence/stop and guides fit and move freely.
- Empty and clean the dust bag or canister frequently and safely.
- Store the tool and accessories in their case or in a dry, ventilated area, protected from moisture, impacts and high temperatures.
Usage restrictions
- Not suitable for cutting metals, stone or materials other than wood or wood-based products unless expressly stated by the manufacturer and used with appropriate accessories.
- Do not use the tool one-handed, on ladders, at shoulder height or in unstable positions.
- Do not work in damp environments, in the rain or near flammable materials or potentially combustible suspended dust.
- Do not use improvised or modified accessories; use only compatible diameters and shank sizes.
- Do not operate if the tool, cable, battery or guards are damaged.
- Keep bystanders and pets away from the work area; do not allow use by minors.
- Avoid prolonged sessions without breaks to reduce the effects of vibration, fatigue and heat build-up.
- Do not cut over areas with screws, nails or staples; inspect or mark the workpiece beforehand.
