Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Tipping of portable hoops due to wind, impacts or hanging from the rim.
- Failure of anchors or detachment in wall-mounted or in-ground installations if inadequately secured.
- Blows and impacts with the backboard, rim or pole during play.
- Finger entrapment in height-adjustment mechanisms or moving joints.
- Slips and falls due to wet, uneven or obstructed surfaces around the hoop.
- Entanglement with the net, especially in children, around the neck or fingers.
- Weather-related deterioration (rust, cracks, leaks in the base) reducing stability.
- Damage to windows, vehicles or nearby objects from rebounding balls.
Safe use
- Assemble and use the hoop following the manufacturer's instructions and check it is stable before play.
- Place it on a firm, level surface, with a clear area around it and no overhead obstacles.
- For portable models, fill the base only with the recommended material and close the caps securely; do not place improvised weights on top.
- Do not hang from the rim or the net and avoid dunking if the model is not designed for it.
- Adjust the height only when the area is clear and no ball is in play; keep hands away from joints and lock the system after adjustment.
- On very windy days, lower the height, secure the structure or avoid use; do not park vehicles beneath it.
- When moving a portable hoop, use the designated handles/wheels, do not pull on the rim and move slowly, preferably with assistance.
- Wear sports footwear with good traction and keep the surface clean and dry.
Storage and maintenance
- Regularly inspect bolts, joints, pole, backboard, rim and net; if there is looseness, cracks or advanced rust, stop using it until parts are repaired or replaced.
- Check the base of portable models: fill level, caps and any leaks.
- Clean the backboard and rim with water and mild soap; avoid abrasive products that may damage surfaces.
- Protect the hoop from prolonged exposure to the elements: lower the height or shelter it when not in use for long periods.
- In cold climates, drain the water from the base to prevent frost damage if specified by the manufacturer.
- Lubricate and adjust moving mechanisms only if permitted by the manufacturer.
- Replace the net if it is stiff, frayed or torn to prevent snagging.
- After storms or after moving it, check again that it is upright and stable.
Restrictions of use
- Not a toy or climbing equipment: do not climb onto the backboard, pole or rim, or swing from the net.
- Minors must use it under adult supervision; they must not adjust the height or move the hoop.
- Avoid crowding under the rim and organise turns to reduce collisions between players.
- Do not use unsuitable or excessively heavy balls (e.g. medicine balls).
- Do not modify the structure or add accessories not specified by the manufacturer.
- For wall-mounted or in-ground installations, have the installation carried out by qualified personnel and use fixings suitable for the supporting surface.
- Do not place the hoop near traffic, windows or overhead wiring.
- Do not use the hoop if it shows visible damage or instability.
