Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Inhalation of vapours and volatile compounds, with possible dizziness or respiratory irritation, especially in poorly ventilated spaces.
- Skin or eye irritation from direct contact with the liquid product or splashes.
- Flammability of some varnishes and associated cleaners; risk of ignition from sparks, flames or cigarettes.
- Newly varnished surfaces are slippery and can cause falls until the product has dried completely.
- Soaked rags or wadding can self-heat if piled up, posing a fire hazard.
- Permanent staining on floors, textiles or furniture from drips and spills.
Safe use
- Ventilate the work area well during application and drying; aim for an airflow that does not stir up dust.
- Wear gloves and eye protection; consider a suitable mask or respirator if ventilation is insufficient or if sanding between coats.
- Keep sources of heat, sparks and flames away; do not smoke during application and drying.
- Prepare the area: cover floors and furniture, remove rugs, and protect skirting boards and sockets to prevent splashes.
- Test in an inconspicuous area to check tone, sheen and compatibility with existing finishes.
- Apply thin, even coats, observing the manufacturer's recommended drying times to avoid defects and a build-up of vapours.
- Avoid mixing the varnish with other products or thinners not recommended on the label.
- Keep children and pets out of the area until it is completely dry and there is no perceptible odour.
- If working at height (railings, shelving), use a stable ladder and avoid overreaching.
- Clean up drips and spills immediately; soak up residues with absorbent material and ventilate.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the product in its original container, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
- Avoid extreme temperatures; some products can deteriorate with frost or excessive heat.
- Keep containers upright and out of reach of children and pets.
- After use, clean tools with the medium indicated on the label and dispose of leftovers responsibly; do not pour into drains.
- Lay soaked rags out in a safe place to air-dry completely before disposal.
- Check stored product periodically; if it smells unusual, has thickened excessively or shows clumps, consider not using it.
- For the maintenance of varnished surfaces, clean with soft cloths and neutral cleaners; avoid abrasive pads until the varnish has fully cured.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use outdoors or in areas with constant moisture (inside showers, saunas) unless the product explicitly states otherwise.
- Do not apply on surfaces that will be in direct and frequent contact with food, cots or toys, unless the label states that it is suitable for that use.
- Do not spray indoors without adequate ventilation and equipment; atomisation increases the risk of inhalation and of flammable atmospheres.
- Do not use near appliances with a pilot flame or switched-on heating elements.
- Do not reuse containers or decant into unlabelled containers.
- Do not use the product if it shows signs of deterioration, abnormal container pressure or leaks.
