Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Overheating from an unsuitable thermal level or from using too many layers.
- Accidental suffocation if it covers the head, especially in babies and toddlers.
- Risk of fire or burns from contact with candles, cigarettes, heaters or hot lamps.
- Allergic reactions or irritation from the filling, dust or accumulated dust mites.
- Mould and unpleasant odours if used or stored damp, or if not thoroughly dried after washing.
- Trips or falls if the duvet is too large and drags on the floor.
- Damage to the filling and loss of fibres/feathers due to improper washing or drying.
Safe use
- Choose a thermal level (tog/weight) appropriate to the season and room temperature; avoid stacking too many layers.
- Use a correctly sized cover and fasten zips or buttons securely to keep the filling protected.
- Air the duvet before first use and periodically to remove odours and dust.
- Position it so that it does not cover the head or obstruct breathing.
- Keep it away from heat sources and flames; do not dry it on radiators or in direct contact with heaters.
- Check seams and fabrics; if there are tears or filling escaping, repair it or stop using it until resolved.
- Avoid combining it with electric blankets or heat packs on high settings to prevent overheating.
- On children’s beds, use a size appropriate to the bed so that it does not drag or shift excessively.
Storage and maintenance
- Always follow the care label instructions; not all are suitable for the same washing method or temperature.
- Wash and dry when necessary, ensuring complete drying to prevent mould and clumping.
- Shake and air regularly to redistribute the filling and maintain volume.
- Use a protective cover and wash it frequently to reduce the build-up of dust and allergens.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place, in a breathable fabric bag; avoid airtight plastic bags for long-term storage.
- Protect from moisture, spills and pets to prevent stains and odours.
- Avoid harsh bleaches and high temperatures if not indicated on the label.
- If you detect a musty smell or mould stains, do not use it until it has been washed and dried completely.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use in cots or with babies; not recommended for children under 12 months.
- For young children, older adults or those with reduced mobility, use lightweight duvets and supervise their use.
- Do not use if the duvet is damp or wet.
- Do not cover the head or wrap the body completely, especially with a fever or in hot environments.
- Not suitable for use near flames, cigarettes or heating appliances.
- Avoid combined use with electric blankets on high settings or for prolonged periods.
- If allergic symptoms appear (itching, cough, congestion), stop using it and air it or wash it; consider an alternative filling if they persist.
