Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Fire caused by contact with textiles, furniture or other combustible materials, or due to heat build-up.
  • Burns from touching hot metal or glass surfaces after use with a candle or bulb.
  • Tipping over or falling, with possible glass breakage and cuts.
  • Electric shock or short circuit in electric models due to damaged cables, faulty plugs or ingress of moisture.
  • Smoke and soot from candles in poorly ventilated spaces.
  • Leaks, overheating or explosion of batteries/cells in battery-powered or rechargeable models.
  • Tripping or snagging on cables with floor and tabletop lanterns.
  • Risk to children and pets due to open flame, small parts (such as button batteries) or fragile glass.

Safe use

  • Place the lantern on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and walkways.
  • Leave clear space around it and keep curtains, papers, dried plants and other flammable materials away.
  • Do not cover the lantern with fabrics or add decorations that could catch fire or block ventilation.
  • If used with a candle: use appropriately sized candles, do not leave it unattended, do not move it while the candle is lit or the wax is hot, and extinguish it before sleeping or going out.
  • If electric: check that the cable and plug are in good condition, unplug by pulling the plug (not the cable), and avoid the cable crossing walkways or being pulled taut.
  • If rechargeable: charge on firm, non-combustible surfaces using compatible chargers; do not cover it while charging, and stop charging if you notice unusual heating or a strange odour.
  • Use only bulbs of the type and wattage recommended by the manufacturer, and ensure adequate ventilation of the lantern.
  • Allow it to cool before handling; use a cloth or gloves if necessary.

Storage and maintenance

  • Allow to cool completely before cleaning or storing.
  • Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage finishes or glass.
  • Remove wax residues, dust and dirt that could block vents or cause heat build-up.
  • Periodically check joints, screws and glass panels; replace damaged or cracked parts immediately.
  • For electric models, do not use the product if you detect damage to the cable, lampholder or switch; if moisture has entered, allow it to dry completely before switching it back on.
  • For battery-operated models, remove the batteries if you will not use the lantern for an extended period, and store them in a cool, dry place.
  • Store the lantern in a dry, ventilated place; unless the product explicitly states otherwise, avoid direct exposure to rain or moisture.
  • Protect the glass during transport or storage to avoid impacts and breakage.

Usage restrictions

  • Not a toy: keep the product and its accessories out of reach of children and pets; always supervise when a flame is present or when powered/charging.
  • Do not use the lantern in unventilated enclosed spaces, inside cupboards or under textiles.
  • Do not hang the lantern by the handle or by the cable unless it is clearly designed for this; use it on its intended base.
  • Do not use it outdoors unless the product itself clearly indicates so.
  • Do not modify the wiring, candle holder or components; do not drill or add unspecified accessories.
  • Do not use combustible liquids or gels unless expressly indicated by the product; do not place more candles than intended.
  • Do not use near flammable liquids, aerosols, gas or intense sources of heat.
  • For models with button batteries, ensure the compartment is properly closed and keep the batteries out of sight and reach of children.
