Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Tip-over of the lamp due to an unstable base or impacts, with risk of injury and breakage.
  • Burns from contact with bulbs or parts that can become hot during use.
  • Electrical hazard from damaged cables, faulty plugs or use in damp areas.
  • Fire risk from covering the lamp, placing it too close to textiles or other combustible materials, or using bulbs of unsuitable wattage.
  • Trip hazards from cables crossing walkways or poorly secured.
  • Cuts from a broken shade or glass diffusers.
  • Damage caused by children or pets pulling the cable or pushing the lamp.
  • Overheating due to dust build-up on the shade, lampholder or ventilation openings.

Safe use

  • Place the lamp on a firm, level floor, leaving clearance from curtains, sofas and other objects.
  • Use only bulbs with the cap type and maximum wattage recommended on the product label.
  • Do not cover the bulb or the shade, and allow air to circulate to dissipate heat.
  • Assemble the lamp following the instructions, ensuring the stem and base are securely fixed and straight.
  • Switch on and off with dry hands; plug in and unplug by holding the plug, never pulling the cable.
  • Avoid dimmer switches or accessories if the lamp or the bulb are not compatible.
  • Do not overload power strips or extension leads; distribute the load across suitable sockets.
  • Route the cable along the skirting board or secure it so it does not cross walkways; do not run it under rugs.
  • Allow it to cool completely before changing the bulb or handling parts near the light source.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean the lamp when unplugged and cool, using a dry cloth or one slightly dampened on the shade if the material allows; avoid abrasive products and any contact of water with electrical parts.
  • Remove dust from the shade and lampholder regularly to prevent overheating.
  • Periodically inspect the cable, plug and switch; if you notice cuts, sharp kinks or looseness, stop using it until the damaged component is replaced.
  • Replace blown bulbs with compatible models and fit them securely.
  • To move it, hold it by the base and stem; do not pull the cable or drag the lamp.
  • If storing, keep it upright or protected to avoid deformation and impacts, in a dry place away from moisture.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct heat sources or intense sunlight that could discolour or deform the shade.

Restrictions of use

  • For dry indoor use, unless the manufacturer expressly states it is suitable for outdoor or damp areas.
  • Keep out of reach of young children and pets or use additional securing systems; it is not a toy or a climbing aid.
  • Do not use it if any parts are missing, if it is unstable or if it shows abnormal wobbling.
  • Do not place the lamp against curtains, clothing or other flammable materials, nor cover it with fabrics to dim the light.
  • Do not modify the cable, plug, lampholder or structure; do not hang objects from the shade or stem.
  • Avoid placing it in very narrow corridors or points of passage where it could be knocked or cause trips.
  • Do not use the lamp in bathrooms, on balconies or terraces, or near sinks unless the model is designed for it.
