Safety Warnings and Precautions
Main Risks
- Glass or cup slipping due to condensation or polished surfaces, with possible tipping and spillage.
- Heat transfer: some materials may become hot and cause marks on furniture or burns on contact.
- Breakage or chipping of glass, ceramic or stone coasters, with a risk of cuts.
- Moisture trapped beneath the coaster that may stain or damage sensitive surfaces.
- Leaching of dyes, varnishes or rubber from the underside that could discolour certain finishes.
- Grit or burrs on the base or edges that can scratch the table.
- Suction effect between glass and coaster when lifting, causing the coaster to drop suddenly.
- Risk of combustion of materials such as cork, wood or felt if brought near flames or intense sources of heat.
Safe Use
- Place the coaster on a stable, clean and dry surface.
- Dry the base of the glass and the coaster to reduce slipping due to condensation.
- Check for cracks, chips or warping before each use.
- Avoid placing extremely hot containers; it is not a trivet for pots or pans straight from the hob.
- If you notice suction when lifting the glass, hold it upright and, if necessary, separate the coaster with the other hand.
- Do not drag the coaster across delicate surfaces; lift it to move it.
- Keep the underside clean (dust, grit) to prevent scratches.
- Remove and clean up spills immediately to prevent stains or trapped moisture.
- For hard materials or items with edges, consider using felt pads on the underside when placing them on very delicate furniture.
Storage and Maintenance
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap; avoid abrasive scourers and solvents that may damage the finish.
- Do not immerse wooden, cork or felt coasters in water; air-dry after each cleaning.
- Ensure they are completely dry before stacking or storing to prevent mould and unpleasant odours.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent warping and discolouration.
- Stack in small, flat piles; interleave separators if they are fragile to avoid rubbing.
- Check non-slip bases or pads periodically and replace them if they are worn.
- Avoid dishwashers, microwaves or ovens unless specifically indicated for the product.
Usage Restrictions
- Do not use as a trivet for very hot utensils, or as a chopping board or support for heavy or sharp objects.
- Do not place near open flames, embers, hotplates, hobs, stoves or lit cigarettes.
- Do not use as a base for lit candles or other items that emit intense heat.
- Do not use on freshly varnished, waxed or unsealed surfaces without first testing in an inconspicuous area.
- Do not use if it shows cracks, chips, peeling colour or finish, or deformation.
- Keep out of reach of young children and pets when items are heavy, fragile or have hard edges; this is not a toy.
- Avoid prolonged contact with oils, inks or other liquids that may cause permanent staining.
