Usage Warnings
Bench Vices and Clamps
Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Finger trapping and crushing between the jaws or with the spindle when tightening or loosening.
- Ejection of the workpiece if poorly clamped or due to lateral impacts during work.
- Breakage of the body, handle or spindle from over-tightening or impacts, with possible ejection of fragments.
- Detachment or tipping of the vice if poorly anchored to the bench.
- Cuts from burrs, swarf or sharp edges of the clamped workpiece.
- Burns when handling hot parts after cutting, grinding or welding.
Safe use
- Install and secure the vice on a stable, flat surface with suitable fasteners, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Before tightening, clean the jaw faces; centre the workpiece and support as much surface area as possible. Use soft jaws or protectors on delicate materials or finished surfaces.
- Tighten progressively without striking; stop when a firm hold is achieved. Do not use pipes or extensions on the handle.
- Keep fingers away from the closing area and the spindle while tightening; hold the handle at the centre for better control.
- Wear safety glasses. Wear close-fitting gloves only when handling parts with burrs and never near rotating tools.
- When working with machines (pillar drill, saw, milling machine), secure the vice to the table and ensure it does not interfere with the tool or its travel.
- Do not strike the workpiece to 'seat' it in the vice; readjust the position and retighten.
- Do not clamp pressurised containers, fuel tanks, batteries, thin glass or objects that could break or explode dangerously.
Storage and maintenance
- After each use, remove swarf, dust and oils from the jaws, slides and base.
- Lightly lubricate the spindle and sliding surfaces; avoid excess to prevent attracting dirt.
- Periodically check the jaws, handle, spindle and mounting fasteners. Replace worn jaws or protectors and tighten any loose fixings.
- Regularly check the anchoring to the bench; re-tighten or renew bolts and washers if necessary.
- Protect from moisture to prevent corrosion; dry after contact with water and apply a light anti-corrosion film if appropriate.
- Store the tool covered, in a dry, stable place, away from walkways.
- Avoid aggressive solvents that may damage coatings or lubricants.
Restrictions on use
- Intended use: static clamping of workpieces. Not suitable for lifting, high-tonnage pressing or as a safety device.
- Do not use the vice as an anvil or for hammer straightening.
- Do not exceed the opening or workpiece size recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not modify the product (welding, drilling, cutting) or fit non-equivalent parts.
- Do not use the tool if it shows cracks, deformation, excessive play or if the base is loose.
- Keep out of the reach of children; in educational or beginner settings, use under supervision.
- Avoid exposing the tool to direct flames or extreme temperatures that could weaken the material.
