Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Severe cuts from contact with the rotating drum and blades.
  • High-velocity ejection of splinters and shavings towards eyes and skin.
  • Kickback or snagging when hitting knots, staples or nails, or due to an excessive depth of cut.
  • Inhalation of wood dust and possible respiratory or skin irritation.
  • Exposure to high noise levels with risk of hearing loss.
  • Electric shock from damaged cables, defective plugs or use in damp environments.
  • Entanglement of loose clothing, hair or accessories in moving parts.
  • Minor burns from the motor or blades heating up after use.
  • Trip hazards from cabling and extraction hoses in the work area.
  • Fire risk due to build-up of fine dust and shavings near sources of ignition.

Safe use

  • Wear safety goggles, hearing protection and a suitable mask for wood dust; avoid loose gloves during use to prevent entanglement.
  • Secure the workpiece with clamps on a stable, clear surface; work with good lighting.
  • Check the timber and remove nails, staples or other foreign objects before starting.
  • Set a moderate depth of cut and make several shallow passes instead of forcing the tool.
  • Switch on the planer and wait for it to reach speed before contacting the surface; keep the base fully supported during the pass.
  • Keep hands away from the blade area and the chip ejection port; direct the ejection of shavings away from yourself and others.
  • Attach a dust bag or extraction system if available and keep the ejection chute clear.
  • Disconnect from the mains or remove the battery before changing blades, making adjustments or cleaning.
  • Allow the drum to come to a complete stop before setting the tool down or letting go.
  • Keep the cable well clear of the cutting path and do not work in rain, damp conditions or on unstable surfaces.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean shavings and dust after each use with a brush or vacuum; do not allow build-up in ventilation grilles.
  • Regularly inspect blades, base and fixings; replace worn, nicked or damaged blades immediately.
  • Check the condition of the cable, plug and housing; do not use the tool if it shows visible damage.
  • Keep support surfaces and guides clean to avoid uneven sliding.
  • Apply adjustments and lubrication only as per the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Allow the tool to cool before storing and do not cover it while it is still hot.
  • Store in a dry, clean place and out of the reach of children; use a case or cover where possible.
  • Do not hang the tool by the cable and coil cables without straining them.
  • On battery models: remove it for storage, avoid extreme temperatures and protect the contacts from moisture and short circuits.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the planer on materials it is not designed for (metal, masonry, plaster or others not specified by the manufacturer).
  • Avoid working on very wet timber or with unknown finishes if you do not have suitable protection against the dust generated.
  • Do not operate near flammable liquids or vapours, or in areas with combustible dust suspended in the air.
  • Do not use the tool if you are fatigued, under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that reduces alertness.
  • Do not allow use by minors; inexperienced persons should be supervised by a competent person.
  • Keep bystanders and pets away from the work area and from the ejection path of shavings.
  • Do not modify the tool or disable safety devices; use only compatible accessories and blades in good condition.
  • Avoid awkward postures, working from unsecured ladders or overreaching.
