Usage Warnings

Wheelbarrows and Carts

Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Load tipping over due to overloading or poor distribution.
  • Hands or fingers trapped in handles, chassis, wheels or brakes.
  • Impacts to feet and legs, and collisions with people or objects during manoeuvring.
  • Loss of control on ramps, kerbs or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Strain and back injuries when lifting, setting off or stopping the load.
  • Packages working loose or falling due to poor securing or damaged packaging.
  • Damage to floors, doors or shelving due to sharp turns or protruding loads.

Safe use

  • Check before use: wheels rotate freely, axles have no play, the brake operates (if fitted) and the platform or base is not deformed.
  • Always adhere to the stated maximum capacity and avoid overloading.
  • Place heavy items low and centred to keep the centre of gravity within the base; secure the load with straps or ropes when necessary.
  • Push rather than pull whenever possible; maintain a firm two-handed grip and take short steps to keep control.
  • Plan the route and keep it clear; move at a moderate speed, take wide turns and brake in good time.
  • Avoid steep gradients; on ramps, proceed slowly, without sharp turns, and use anti-slip surfaces or additional assistance if the load requires it.
  • Do not jump kerbs or thresholds: use ramps or other suitable aids.
  • With bulky loads or those that limit visibility, ask for assistance to guide the manoeuvre and mark any protruding ends.
  • Protect hands and feet with grip gloves and sturdy footwear; keep clothing close-fitting and fingers away from moving parts.
  • Do not leave the trolley or cart unattended with a load; when stopping, apply the brake or chock the wheels.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store on a flat, stable surface in a dry, ventilated place; lock or position the wheels to prevent unintended movement.
  • Do not park on slopes or obstruct aisles, exits or walkways.
  • Clean after use to remove dust, debris and oils from the platform and wheels, improving traction.
  • Periodically inspect fasteners, joints, handles and welds; if there is play or deformation, stop using it until corrected.
  • Check the condition of the wheels: wear, cuts or cracks; if pneumatic, check correct inflation; replace damaged ones with compatible spares.
  • Lubricate axles and bearings when necessary, avoiding lubricant getting onto the tread.
  • Protect from prolonged moisture and from corrosive substances that may deteriorate metal components.
  • Keep capacity labels and any safety markings visible; replace them if illegible.
  • Store straps, ropes and tie-down accessories dry, without knots or fraying; replace any that show wear.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not carry people or use as a step, scaffold or work platform.
  • Do not use on stairs; to negotiate steps, use equipment specifically designed for that purpose.
  • Do not operate on very uneven surfaces, or on surfaces with ice, oil puddles or loose gravel that compromise traction and braking.
  • Do not run, use a phone or become distracted while manoeuvring; always maintain control of the equipment.
  • Do not move items that protrude excessively if they cannot be securely contained within the supporting base.
  • Do not expose to intense heat sources, flames or corrosive chemical agents without adequate protection of the equipment and the load.
  • Do not modify the structure, welds, handles, axles or brakes, nor add improvised levers or extensions.
  • Keep out of reach of children; use is restricted to persons with the necessary strength and dexterity and, in shared environments, under responsible supervision.
