Safety warnings and precautions
Key risks
- Ejection of sparks and fragments that may cause injury or fires.
- Breakage of the disc or accessories due to improper use or pre-existing damage.
- Kickback if the disc jams, leading to loss of control of the tool.
- Cuts, entrapment and burns from contact with the rotating disc or hot surfaces.
- Inhalation of dust (metal, stone, concrete) and exposure to noise and vibration.
- Electrical risk with corded equipment or due to moisture; thermal risk and battery damage in cordless models.
- Property damage from sparks to glass, cables, tanks or sensitive surfaces.
Safe use
- Select the correct disc and accessory for the material and check they are compatible in diameter and speed; discard cracked, warped or expired discs.
- Fit and correctly adjust guards and handles; never work without the disc guard.
- Hold the tool with both hands and secure the workpiece with vices or clamps; maintain a stable posture and a clear work area.
- Before touching the workpiece or resting the tool, wait for the disc to reach full speed and ensure it does not contact the material at start-up.
- Do not force the tool or apply excessive pressure; avoid using cutting discs for side grinding.
- Control the direction of sparks and keep flammable materials away; keep other people and pets out of the work area.
- To change discs or adjust guards, unplug the cord or remove the battery and wait for the disc to come to a complete stop.
- Wear eye protection (sealed goggles or a face shield), hearing protection, abrasion-resistant gloves and a filtering facepiece respirator (FFP2/FFP3 depending on the dust generated); wear close-fitting clothing and tie back hair.
- Manage the cable so it does not contact the disc or create trip hazards; on cordless models, use only compatible batteries and chargers in good condition.
- Work with good ventilation and, if possible, with extraction or a dust shroud to reduce dust.
Storage and maintenance
- Disconnect the tool and wait for a complete stop before setting it down; allow it to cool.
- Regularly inspect the condition of the guard, switch, handles, cable or battery; replace damaged components.
- Clean dust and burrs after each use with a dry cloth; keep ventilation slots clear.
- Store the angle grinder in a dry place, out of the reach of children, preferably in its case or pouch.
- Store discs flat, dry and protected from impact; observe the expiry date and identify and discard those that have been dropped or exposed to moisture.
- Charge batteries on non-flammable, well-ventilated surfaces, avoiding extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
Restrictions of use
- Not suitable for minors; use only if you have basic knowledge of power tools and the risks of grinding and cutting.
- Do not work in damp environments, in the rain, or in the presence of combustible gases, vapours or dust.
- Do not cut pressurised containers, pipes containing material, or energised or pressurised cables or materials.
- Do not use accessories that are not specific to angle grinders or that exceed the size or speed rating of the equipment.
- Do not remove or block guards; do not modify the tool.
- Do not hold the workpiece by hand, or work above shoulder height, on unstable ladders, or in awkward positions.
- Stop work if you notice unusual vibrations, abnormal sparks, a burning smell, excessive heating or loss of power.
- Limit continuous exposure to vibration and noise by taking regular breaks.
