Safety warnings and precautions
Main hazards
- Severe cuts or entanglement in the hopper and moving blades.
- Ejection of chips or objects at high speed, posing a risk to eyes and skin.
- High noise and prolonged vibration that may cause discomfort or fatigue.
- Sudden blockages causing material to be pulled in and possible kickback.
- Tipping or movement of the equipment on uneven ground or slopes.
- Electrical risk from damaged cables, improper connections, or working in damp environments.
- Inhalation of dust and fumes; with petrol engines, hazardous exhaust gases in enclosed spaces.
- Hot surfaces (engine/exhaust) with a risk of burns.
- Fire due to fuel handling or build-up of dry material near hot parts.
Safe use
- Read the manufacturer's instructions before first use and follow the assembly and operating recommendations.
- Wear safety glasses or a face shield, hearing protection, snug-fitting gloves and closed-toe footwear; tie back hair and avoid loose clothing and jewellery.
- Place the garden shredder on a firm, level, clear surface; lock the wheels if fitted.
- Maintain a safety distance around it and keep children, pets and bystanders away.
- On electric models, use outdoor-rated extension leads in good condition; keep the cable away from the hopper and from walkways; avoid using it in the rain.
- Feed material gradually without forcing; remove soil, stones, string and wire before feeding; observe the recommended branch diameter.
- Use the supplied pusher if provided; never insert hands or improvised objects into the hopper.
- If you notice abnormal vibration or noise, a burning smell or smoke, stop the machine immediately.
- To clear a blockage or make adjustments, switch off, unplug or remove the battery if applicable, and wait for a complete stop and cool-down before intervening.
- For petrol engines, refuel outdoors with the engine switched off and cool; avoid sparks and open flames and clean up any spillages.
Storage and maintenance
- Disconnect the machine after each use and clean the hopper and cutting area with appropriate tools; do not use your hands or high-pressure water on electrical components.
- Dry the unit if it has become damp and protect it from rain and dust during storage.
- Store in a stable, ventilated place out of the reach of children; lock the switch and remove the battery if applicable to prevent accidental start-up.
- Do not stack objects on the machine or transport it lying on its side if it could leak oil or fuel.
- Periodically check fasteners, guards, the hopper and the condition of blades/hammers; replace damaged or worn parts with compatible spares recommended by the manufacturer.
- To sharpen or replace blades, wear cut-resistant gloves and follow the manufacturer's instructions; if you lack experience, use a qualified service centre.
- If the cable, plug, casing or switches show damage, do not use the equipment until it has been inspected and repaired.
- For prolonged storage of petrol models, empty the tank safely and store fuel in suitable, well-sealed containers in a ventilated place, away from sources of heat.
Usage restrictions
- For use exclusively by trained adults; not suitable for minors or for persons without the necessary operating capability unless under close supervision.
- Do not use petrol engines indoors, in enclosed garages or poorly ventilated areas.
- Do not operate on steep slopes, stairs, platforms, workbenches or vehicles.
- Do not exceed the branch diameter specified by the manufacturer or feed in roots with compacted soil.
- Do not shred stones, metal, glass, plastics, cables, fabrics, unknown materials, or materials that are very wet and compacted.
- Do not move the garden shredder while it is running or leave it operating unattended.
- Do not remove guards, sensors or safety switches, or make modifications.
- Avoid using it if you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines that reduce alertness.
