Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Electric shock from contact with water, moisture or damaged cables and plugs.
  • Overheating and fire risk if vents are covered or the unit is placed near heat sources.
  • Hearing damage from listening at high volume, especially with headphones.
  • Battery incidents: leakage, overheating or explosion due to improper use; risk of ingestion of button batteries (coin cells) if the model uses them.
  • Equipment falls and cable tugs that may cause injury or tripping.
  • Risk of minor pinching when extending or retracting metal antennas.

Safe use

  • Place the radio on a stable, dry, well-ventilated surface; leave space around it and do not cover it.
  • Keep the unit away from water, vapour and splashes; do not use it with wet hands or over sinks or baths.
  • Before plugging in, check that the cable, plug and adaptor are in good condition; plug in and unplug by holding the plug.
  • Use only the power adaptor, batteries or chargers specified by the manufacturer; avoid overloaded extension leads.
  • With headphones, start at a low volume and increase gradually; take breaks and keep a level that allows you to hear your surroundings.
  • Handle the antenna carefully to avoid forcing it; if using an external antenna, avoid handling it during thunderstorms.
  • With batteries: observe the correct polarity; do not mix types or new with used batteries; stop charging if the unit becomes hot or smells unusual; only charge batteries if the device is designed to do so.

Storage and maintenance

  • Disconnect from the mains and remove the batteries before cleaning; use a soft, dry cloth; avoid liquids that could get inside.
  • Store the radio in a cool, dry, ventilated place; avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If you will not use it for an extended period, remove the batteries and store them separately, protected from contact with metal objects.
  • Periodically check that the vents and the antenna are clean and free of dust; never open the casing.
  • Regularly check cables, plugs and the battery compartment; if you detect corrosion, leaks or deformation, stop using the unit until it is resolved.
  • If liquid gets inside, disconnect immediately and allow it to dry completely before using again; if any issues persist, do not use it.

Restrictions of use

  • Not a toy: keep out of reach of small children; supervise use when there are cables, button batteries or removable parts.
  • Do not use the product in bathrooms, saunas or outdoors in the rain unless the model is clearly designed for it.
  • Do not cover the radio with fabrics, furniture or other objects nor enclose it in unventilated spaces.
  • Do not use damaged or incompatible adaptors, chargers, batteries or cables.
  • Do not pierce, crush, heat or incinerate batteries; do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not handle external antennas or cabling during storms; if possible, disconnect them along with the mains power.
  • Avoid using fully isolating headphones when driving or travelling on public roads.
