Safety warnings and precautions

Main hazards

  • Impacts and cuts from contact with the rotating drill bit and chuck.
  • Flying swarf and dust that can damage eyes and airways.
  • Kickback due to bit jamming, with a risk of wrist sprains or loss of control.
  • High noise and prolonged vibration that may cause discomfort or fatigue.
  • Burns from heating of the drill bit, chuck or the material being drilled.
  • Electrical hazard from damaged cables or use in damp areas.
  • Battery overheating or fire due to improper use or charging.
  • Accidental drilling into hidden electrical, water or gas services.
  • On pneumatic models, hose disconnection causing a whipping effect.

Safe use

  • Wear safety glasses and hearing protection; add a dust mask when drilling materials that generate dust.
  • Tie back hair, remove jewellery and wear close-fitting clothing; avoid loose gloves near rotating parts.
  • Check the area to be drilled with a detector and/or plans to avoid hidden cables and pipes.
  • Select the correct bit and mode for the material; secure the bit firmly and remove the chuck key before starting.
  • Secure the workpiece with clamps or stops; maintain a stable stance and hold the drill with both hands; use the auxiliary handle if fitted.
  • Start at low speed and do not force the tool; avoid side pressure and take breaks to control temperature and vibration.
  • Unplug from the mains or remove the battery before changing bits, adjusting accessories or cleaning.
  • Keep air vents clear and use dust extraction if the accessory allows.
  • Specific models: on pneumatic units, check pressure and connections; on corded units, avoid sharp tugs and tight loops; on battery models, seat and lock the pack correctly.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean the drill after each use to remove dust and swarf.
  • Check the chuck, switch and housing; do not use the tool if it shows cracks, play or unusual noises/odours.
  • Inspect the cable and plug; replace them if they show cuts, abrasion or loose contacts; do not repair with tape.
  • Keep drill bits and accessories sharp and free from deformation; discard them if they are nicked, bent or cracked.
  • Store the drill dry, clean and out of the reach of children; avoid moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Batteries: charge on a stable, ventilated surface with the charger recommended by the manufacturer; do not cover the charger, avoid impacts and heat; if the pack swells or gives off an unusual odour, stop using it.
  • On pneumatic models, keep hoses and couplings clean and free from cracks or leaks.
  • Transport the tool with the battery removed or the plug disconnected and, where possible, without a bit fitted.

Usage restrictions

  • For adult use only; keep out of the reach of children; inexperienced persons only under supervision.
  • Do not use the drill in the rain, on wet surfaces or near water unless it is designed for such use.
  • Do not work in atmospheres with flammable dust, vapours or liquids.
  • Do not operate on unstable ladders or overhead one-handed without adequate restraint.
  • Do not lock the switch in the on position or carry the drill while running.
  • Do not use damaged, unsuitable or incompatible accessories; do not modify the tool.
  • Do not drill unknown materials that may release hazardous dust without adequate dust control and respiratory protection.
  • Do not leave batteries charging unattended for prolonged periods or permanently connected.
