Laser Measures
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Eye exposure to the laser beam or to strong reflections from glass, mirrors or polished metal surfaces.
- Falls, trips or knocks when measuring at height, on ladders or in areas with obstacles and edges.
- Incorrect readings due to vibrations, highly reflective or dark surfaces, dust, smoke, fog or direct sunlight, which can lead to drilling, cutting or assembling in the wrong locations.
- Battery or cell risks: overheating, leakage or short circuit due to improper use or charging.
- Equipment damage due to impacts, moisture or dirt on the optics, leading to loss of accuracy.
Safe use
- Do not look directly into the beam or point it at people or animals. Avoid specular reflections; aim the device away from mirrors, glass and polished metal.
- Mark off the work area and warn third parties. Switch off the laser when moving around or when not measuring.
- Work on a stable support. At height or on ladders, maintain three points of contact and do not overreach; use a tripod or mount where possible.
- Before starting, check that the lens is clean and undamaged. Verify the unit and measurement reference; repeat critical measurements and perform a test over a known distance.
- On difficult surfaces (very bright, very dark or at long distance), use a target plate or a matte surface to improve the reading.
- Keep the device dry. If it gets wet, switch it off and dry it before using it again.
- Use the wrist strap or case to prevent accidental drops of the device.
- Charge and use the battery or cells in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not charge non-rechargeable cells or mix new and used cells.
- Do not open the housing or attempt to modify the laser’s alignment or power.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the meter in its case, clean and dry, protected from dust, moisture and impacts.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and sudden changes. After a temperature change, allow the device to acclimatise before measuring.
- Clean the optics with a microfibre cloth. Do not use solvents or compressed air directly on the sensors.
- Periodically check the accuracy by comparing with a known distance. If you detect deviations, stop using it until its calibration has been verified.
- Remove the battery or cells for prolonged storage or if they are damaged. Take used batteries or cells to an appropriate collection point.
- Transport the device with adequate padding to prevent vibration and drops.
Restrictions of use
- Keep out of reach of children. Only to be used by persons who understand its operation and the safety warnings.
- Do not aim the laser at eyes, people, animals, moving vehicles or aircraft. Do not observe the laser spot with magnifying glasses, binoculars or cameras.
- Do not use in potentially explosive atmospheres or in the presence of flammable gases, unless the product is expressly designed for this.
- Do not use the device as a toy or as a pointer for entertainment.
- Use only compatible accessories and mounts recommended by the manufacturer. Do not modify the device.
- Do not immerse the device or expose it to heavy rain or jets of water, unless it has specific protection for this.
