Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Electric shock and arc flash from high currents and voltages during installation, maintenance or use.
- Short circuits when touching terminals with tools or metal objects.
- Overheating or fire due to overloading, insufficient ventilation or faulty connections.
- Electrolyte leakage or gas emission in some battery types, posing a risk of irritation and a flammable atmosphere.
- Damage to connected equipment due to reverse polarity or incorrect wiring.
- Mechanical risk due to weight (impacts, crushing or entrapment, or drops during handling).
- Burns from surfaces or terminals that may become hot in operation.
Safe use
- Installation, sizing and connection must be carried out by qualified personnel, following the battery and system manufacturer’s instructions.
- Before working on the system, disconnect and lock out the power; wear protective gloves and safety glasses; remove rings, watches and other metal objects.
- Keep terminals protected; do not place metal objects on top and always observe the indicated polarity.
- Use compatible cables, connectors and protection devices in good condition; tighten connections without over-tightening and check there are no loose connections.
- Configure the charger/inverter according to the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid overcharging and deep discharge; monitor the temperature and system status.
- Ensure adequate ventilation as required by the battery type; do not cover grilles or enclose the system; keep the surrounding area clear.
- Keep the battery away from heat sources, sparks, open flames, moisture and direct sunlight.
- If you notice a chemical odour, smoke, sparks, swelling or abnormal heating, cut the power if it is safe to do so, evacuate the area and call the emergency services.
Storage and maintenance
- Store in a dry, clean, stable and ventilated place, at a moderate temperature and protected from direct sunlight.
- Keep the state of charge within the range recommended by the manufacturer; if not used for a period, perform periodic maintenance recharging.
- Protect the terminals with caps during storage or transport and secure the battery to prevent tipping or impacts.
- Do not stack unstably or place loads on top of the battery.
- Periodically inspect the casing, cables and connections for damage, corrosion, cracks, swelling, moisture or unusual odours; remove from service any unit showing abnormalities.
- Dust off with a dry cloth; do not use water or solvents; keep the connections clean.
- Keep the system’s ventilation areas free of obstructions.
Restrictions on use
- Do not open, puncture, crush, heat, burn or modify the battery; do not carry out DIY repairs.
- Do not use if it has suffered heavy impacts, immersion, corrosion, deformation or if it shows leaks, a chemical odour or swelling.
- Do not mix batteries of different chemistries, capacities, brands, ages or states of charge in the same bank.
- Do not exceed the voltage, current, temperature or orientation ranges specified by the manufacturer; do not use incompatible chargers or inverters.
- Do not cover the battery or install it in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation.
- Do not smoke, create sparks or weld near the battery, especially during charging.
- Do not use outdoors, in vehicles or in dusty or explosive atmospheres except for models expressly designed for this.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets; use and supervision by adults only.
