Key risks
- Skin or eye irritation from contact with concentrated soaps, disinfectants or fragrances.
- Flammability of alcohol-based hand gels and some perfumed aerosols.
- Risk of rupture or leakage in pressurised containers if punctured, struck or exposed to high temperatures.
- Slips due to spills of soap, gel or water, and from a build-up of paper on the floor.
- Toilet blockages when disposing of paper towels, non-flushable wipes or other consumables.
- Minor cuts when handling dispensers with sharp edges or cutting mechanisms.
- Cross-contamination if dispensers are dirty or refills are left improperly sealed.
- Respiratory discomfort from heavy exposure to aerosols or air fresheners in poorly ventilated spaces.
Safe use
- Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for each refill; use only products compatible with the dispenser.
- Avoid mixing old remnants with new product: empty, clean and dry the dispenser before refilling.
- Handle chemical refills with care; avoid contact with eyes and skin and wash your hands after use.
- Apply alcohol-based hand gel to dry hands and keep it away from flames, sparks and cigarettes.
- Spray air fresheners away from the face and not towards people; ensure adequate ventilation.
- Clean up any spills immediately and, where appropriate, use wet floor signage to prevent falls.
- Do not pierce, burn or refill pressurised containers; do not use units that are dented, bulging or leaking.
- Dispose of paper and wipes in the designated bins; do not flush them unless specifically marked as flushable.
Storage and maintenance
- Store consumables in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep alcohol-based hand gels and aerosols away from flames, hot surfaces and electrical equipment that may generate sparks.
- Close containers tightly after each use to prevent spills, evaporation and contamination.
- Do not stack boxes in an unstable manner or above head height; prevent packages and containers from falling.
- Observe expiry dates and rotate stock (first in, first out).
- Clean dispensers periodically as per the manufacturer's guidance; rinse and dry before fitting a new refill.
- Check fixings and edges of towel holders and dispensers; replace damaged parts to prevent cuts or jams.
- Dispose of empty containers and refills at appropriate recycling points, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
Restrictions on use
- Do not ingest or apply to mucous membranes; avoid use on irritated or broken skin.
- Do not use aerosols in unventilated spaces or near flames, cigarettes or sources of ignition.
- People with allergies, asthma or sensitivity to fragrances: check the ingredients where available and opt for fragrance-free options if necessary.
- Do not refill or decant products into unlabelled containers; do not reuse containers for other purposes.
- Avoid using multiple air fresheners or strong fragrances simultaneously in the same space.
- Handling of refills and aerosols should be carried out only by authorised personnel or under adult supervision.
- Do not use products with damaged, bulging or leaking packaging; dispose of them safely.
- In case of eye contact or accidental ingestion, rinse with water and seek medical attention if discomfort persists.
