Usage Warnings

Folding Ladders

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Slips, loss of balance or overreaching leading to falls.
  • Tipping over due to unstable support, uneven ground or incomplete opening/locking.
  • Finger entrapment in hinges and locks during folding or unfolding.
  • Collapse due to overloading or using an unsuitable configuration.
  • Accidental electrical contact with cables, sockets or connected tools.
  • Slipping of the feet due to dirt, moisture or worn non-slip feet.
  • Being struck by tools or objects falling from height.
  • Injuries when transporting the ladder due to knocks or unexpected opening.

Safe use

  • Inspect before each use: rungs, stiles, hinges, locks, stops and non-slip feet.
  • Fully deploy and lock the mechanisms; check there is no wobble and that it is firmly supported.
  • Place the ladder on a firm, level and clean surface; avoid wet floors, gravel or carpets.
  • Maintain three points of contact; climb up and down facing the ladder, without twisting, and keeping your hands free wherever possible.
  • Do not stand on the top rung or the tray if the model does not permit it; observe the safe working height specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not lean sideways or stretch beyond the footprint of your feet; climb down and reposition the ladder if you cannot reach.
  • Do not move or adjust the ladder with a person on it; do not jump to descend.
  • Wear footwear with non-slip soles and keep rungs and soles clean and dry.
  • Keep clear of cables and electrical equipment; disconnect tools when climbing up or down, and use a tool holder or belt.
  • Outdoors, stop using the ladder in strong winds, rain or ice; avoid working in low light without adequate illumination.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean rungs and feet to remove mud, grease or paint; dry the ladder if it has become wet.
  • Store it folded and secured, in a dry, ventilated place, protected from the weather and corrosive agents.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or direct sunlight that could degrade materials.
  • Periodically check screws, rivets, hinges and locks; replace worn feet or stops with compatible spares.
  • Lightly lubricate hinges and locks when necessary, avoiding the rungs to avoid reducing grip.
  • Remove the ladder from service if you observe cracks, deformations, looseness, loose rungs or advanced corrosion.
  • Transport it by holding the sections and securing the locks to prevent accidental opening or impacts.
  • Do not carry out DIY structural modifications or repairs (drilling, welding, additions).

Usage restrictions

  • For single-person use and within the maximum weight specified by the manufacturer, including tools and materials.
  • Do not use the ladder as a walkway, scaffold, bridge or horizontal support unless the model is designed for it.
  • Do not place it on furniture, boxes, makeshift platforms or on sloping surfaces without the manufacturer’s specific accessories.
  • Avoid use near doors without blocking or signposting their opening; cordon off the area in thoroughfares.
  • Do not allow use by minors; supervision is recommended for people with reduced mobility or prone to vertigo.
  • Do not use the ladder under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that affects balance or alertness.
  • Do not use the ladder if parts are missing, the locks do not engage, or the non-slip feet are missing or damaged.
  • Do not force opening or closing with blows or levers; if it jams, check the cause and remove dirt before continuing.
  • Do not paint the rungs or contact surfaces so as not to hide damage or reduce grip.
