Scaffolding and Platforms

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls from height due to slips, gaps or loss of balance.
  • Tipping or collapse due to overloading, unstable ground or incorrect assembly.
  • Unintended movement of mobile scaffolds.
  • Struck by falling tools or materials from the platform.
  • Trapping or cuts during assembly and dismantling.
  • Contact with electrical cables or nearby installations.
  • Hazards from wind, rain, ice or poor visibility.

Safe use

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions for assembly, use and maximum load.
  • Use the full set of equipment: continuous platform, guardrails and toeboards where the model allows; do not leave gaps.
  • Install on a firm, level and robust surface; use bases or levellers provided with the product and do not improvise shims.
  • Before climbing, check that pins, clips, stabilisers and brakes are correctly positioned and locked.
  • Keep the platform clean, dry and tidy; remove debris, loose cables and unnecessary tools.
  • Access via the designated points (internal ladder, hatch, etc.); do not climb on the outside or use chairs or boxes to gain height.
  • Distribute the load and do not exceed the indicated capacity; avoid concentrating weight at a single point.
  • Do not move scaffolds with people or loose materials on them; apply the brakes after each movement.
  • Maintain a safe distance from power lines and live equipment.
  • Outdoors, stop work in high winds, heavy rain, ice or poor visibility; use anchors or stabilisers if the model permits.
  • Use appropriate PPE: hard hat, slip-resistant footwear and gloves; harness and lifeline when the task or equipment requires it.

Storage and maintenance

  • Check before each use that there are no deformed, cracked, corroded or loose parts; inspect platforms, rungs, joints, wheels and brakes.
  • Immediately replace damaged components with compatible spares from the same system; do not carry out makeshift repairs.
  • Clean off mud, dust and oils that reduce grip or make it difficult to see clips and pins.
  • Keep locking mechanisms, levellers and brakes in good condition; check their operation periodically.
  • Store under cover, in a dry and ventilated place, protected from moisture and corrosive agents; avoid prolonged exposure to the elements when not in use.
  • Stack and transport the parts in a stable manner to avoid impacts, deformation and losses; secure them well during transport.
  • After falls, impacts or intensive use, carry out a more detailed inspection before using again.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not allow minors to use it, nor allow passage beneath the work area without signage and protection.
  • Do not modify, drill or cut components; do not mix parts from different systems or brands.
  • Do not increase the height with improvised objects (boxes, stools or loose ladders) on the platform.
  • Do not remove guardrails, toeboards, stabilisers or anchors required to ease passage.
  • Do not use on soft, slippery or steeply sloping surfaces without the solutions provided by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use under the influence of alcohol, drugs or fatigue.
  • Do not use the scaffold as a support for hoists, cranes, suspended loads or equipment generating forces for which it is not designed.
  • If you lack experience in work at height, carry out assembly and use under the supervision of a competent person and following clear procedures.
