Usage Warnings

Air Conditioner Filters

Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Exposure to dust, allergens and mould spores when removing or cleaning dirty filters.
  • Cuts or scratches from cover or frame edges and possible finger trapping when closing.
  • Electrical hazard if the unit is handled while connected to the mains or with wet parts.
  • Falls when using ladders to access wall- or ceiling-mounted units.
  • Equipment damage, evaporator icing, leaks and reduced performance due to clogged or poorly installed filters.
  • Bad odours or mould growth if the filter is fitted while damp or cleaned with harsh products.

Safe use

  • Switch off the air conditioner and disconnect it from the mains before opening the panel; wait for the fan to stop.
  • Wear gloves and, if there is a lot of dust, a mask; work in good lighting.
  • If using a ladder, position it securely and avoid overreaching; having assistance is advisable.
  • Open and close the covers gently; do not touch the heat exchanger fins or cables.
  • Remove the filter slowly, avoiding shaking it indoors; to dispose of it, place it in a sealed bag.
  • Fit a compatible filter of the correct size; observe the airflow direction if indicated.
  • Do not operate the unit without a filter or with a deformed filter.
  • If the filter is washable, clean with water and mild soap; rinse and dry completely before fitting. If it is not washable, replace it.
  • Do not apply disinfectant sprays, oils or perfumes to the filter unless specified by the manufacturer.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store new filters in their packaging, in a dry, clean place without crushing them; keep away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.
  • Check the filter condition regularly and clean or replace it according to usage and the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Ensure seals, clips and the housing are clean and intact; clean the compartment with a dry or slightly damp cloth, avoiding wetting electrical components.
  • Make sure the washable filter is completely dry before reinstalling it.
  • After refitting, check that the panel closes properly and that the airflow is normal.
  • Record the replacement date and keep used filters out of reach of children and pets.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not cut, bend or modify filters to make them fit; always use the correct size and type for your unit.
  • Do not reuse disposable filters or wash non-washable filters.
  • Do not clean with solvents, concentrated bleach, compressed air, a washing machine or a dishwasher.
  • Do not use domestic filters in environments with fine dust, grease or heavy vapours (e.g., building sites, workshops, commercial kitchens) unless the unit expressly allows it.
  • Do not start the unit if the filter or cover do not fit correctly or if there is visible moisture on the filter.
  • If you notice an abnormal odour, unusual noises or a marked reduction in airflow after replacement, switch off the unit and check the filter installation; if the problem persists, contact the unit's service centre.
