Mattress Protectors

Safety warnings and precautions

Key risks

  • Risk of suffocation from plastic packaging bags and from loose fabric in cots or children's beds.
  • Overheating due to excessive layers or from waterproof protectors in combination with other heat sources.
  • Skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals due to contact with materials or manufacturing residues.
  • Falls or trips if the protector is poorly fitted, creased, or shifts on the mattress.
  • Mould growth and unpleasant odours if not dried properly after washing or spills.
  • Deterioration of the waterproof membrane due to excessively high washing, drying or ironing temperatures.
  • Fire risk if it comes into contact with naked flames, candles or cigarettes.

Safe use

  • Remove and dispose of the plastic packaging immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.
  • Wash the protector before first use, following the care label, to remove any residues.
  • Use the correct size for the mattress length, width and depth; fit it smoothly and without creases.
  • Secure the corners and elastic straps beneath the mattress; do not use it if the fastenings are damaged.
  • After spills, remove and wash it as soon as possible; replace only when it is completely dry.
  • If using it with electric blankets or electric underblankets, use moderate temperature settings and check the compatibility stated by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure it does not obstruct ventilation channels in children's mattresses and does not create gaps.
  • If you notice skin irritation, persistent unpleasant odour or loss of integrity, stop using it and clean it or replace it.

Storage and maintenance

  • Wash periodically according to the care label instructions; prioritise moderate temperatures and avoid bleach unless expressly indicated.
  • Air-dry completely or dry at a low temperature; avoid ironing and high-temperature drying to prevent damage to the waterproof layer.
  • Air the mattress when changing the protector to reduce built-up moisture.
  • Store it clean and completely dry in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Fold it without sharp creases or roll it gently to prevent cracks in the waterproof membrane.
  • Regularly check seams, elastic straps and surface; replace the protector if it shows tears, peeling or loss of fit.
  • Avoid fabric softeners or harsh chemicals if advised against by the manufacturer, as they may affect absorbency or waterproofing.

Usage restrictions

  • Keep away from naked flames, candles and cigarettes and do not apply direct heat (irons, heaters, radiators).
  • Do not use in cots or on baby mattresses unless it is a model specific to that size and fits perfectly, with no loose fabric.
  • Keep out of the reach of babies and children when not installed; do not allow play with the protector or its packaging.
  • Do not use if it is damaged, with the waterproof layer delaminating, with mouldy odours, or if it slips on the mattress.
  • Do not cover mattress vents or combine multiple waterproof covers if they cause excessive heat or humidity.
  • Do not use solvents or corrosive stain removers.
