Italian Coffee Makers

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Burns from contact with the metal body, steam and freshly brewed coffee.
  • Splashes or leaks due to excess pressure caused by a blocked valve, overfilling with water or gasket wear.
  • Deterioration of the handle or fire risk if the flame surrounds the base or reaches plastic parts.
  • Tipping over and spills if placed on an unstable surface or if the lid is handled during brewing.
  • Damage to the coffee maker from heating when empty or from sudden temperature changes.

Safe use

  • Check that the coffee maker is suitable for your heat source and always place it on a stable surface, centred on the burner or hob.
  • Fill the reservoir only up to just below the safety valve; do not cover it.
  • Insert the filter with ground coffee without packing it down tightly, and clean the edges to ensure a proper seal when closing.
  • Make sure the gasket, filter and threads are clean and in good condition; close firmly without forcing.
  • Heat on a low to medium heat. Avoid the flame extending beyond the sides and position the handle away from the heat.
  • Do not leave the coffee maker unattended. Remove it from the heat when brewing has finished to prevent it boiling dry.
  • Do not open or unscrew while steam or liquid is coming out. Wait for the temperature to drop before handling.
  • When serving, hold by the handle and the lid knob, keeping hands and face away from the spout.

Storage and maintenance

  • Allow to cool before cleaning. Avoid cooling the coffee maker abruptly while it is still very hot.
  • Follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. In general, hand-wash with warm water, dry thoroughly and avoid abrasive scourers or cleaning products.
  • Keep the safety valve clean and free from limescale build-up; check periodically that it is not blocked.
  • Inspect the gasket and filter regularly and replace them if you notice cracks, hardening or deformation.
  • Store the coffee maker dry, preferably disassembled or with the lid slightly open, in a clean, dry place.
  • Avoid impacts that could deform the base or damage the threads, as this would affect the seal.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use the coffee maker without water in the lower chamber or with other liquids that may burn or cause blockages (for example, milk).
  • Do not cover, block or tamper with the safety valve, and do not modify any part.
  • Do not use the coffee maker if you detect leaks, damaged threads, a blocked valve or a worn or damaged gasket.
  • Do not place it in ovens, microwaves or on unstable heat sources. Adjust the flame size so it does not extend beyond the base.
  • Keep the product out of the reach of children and do not allow its use without adult supervision.
