Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Inhalation of vapours and aerosols, with possible dizziness, headache or respiratory irritation, especially with solvent-based paints or when spraying.
- Skin and eye irritation from direct contact with paint or splashes.
- Flammability of solvent-based products; fire risk near flames, sparks or cigarettes.
- Falls and injuries when working at height with ladders or scaffolding.
- Release of harmful dust when sanding old coatings; in very old buildings, these layers may contain hazardous substances.
- Contamination of soil, vegetation or drains due to spills and paint waste.
- Allergic reactions or sensitisation in sensitive individuals.
- Slips caused by stained or wet floors during application.
Safe use
- Read and follow the instructions on the packaging; carry out a test first on a small, inconspicuous area.
- Work outdoors or with good cross-ventilation; avoid creating paint mist in enclosed spaces.
- Wear gloves, safety goggles and long-sleeved clothing; use suitable respiratory protection when sanding or spraying.
- Keep sources of ignition away; do not smoke during preparation, application and drying.
- Prepare the surface by removing dust, grease and loose material; avoid painting over visible damp or untreated mould.
- If sanding, minimise dust with extraction or by lightly wetting; clean the area before painting.
- Secure the ladder firmly on a stable surface; do not overreach and work with assistance when necessary.
- Cover plants, floors and drains; clean up splashes immediately to prevent staining and slips.
- Avoid painting over electrical equipment or connections; protect them and keep them dry during the work.
- Avoid applying in rain, strong winds or extreme heat, and observe the recommended drying times.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the paint in its original container, tightly closed and upright.
- Keep in a cool, dry, ventilated place, away from sources of heat, sparks and direct sunlight; protect from frost and high temperatures.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets; do not decant into food or drink containers.
- Clean tools according to the product instructions; do not pour residues or solvents down the drain.
- Take leftovers and containers to an appropriate collection point; never discard them on the ground or in household rubbish.
- Do not pile up rags soaked in paint or solvent; spread them out to air-dry and dispose of them safely to reduce the risk of heat build-up.
- Check opened tins before reusing; if they show a bad odour, gelation or irreversible separation, dispose of them appropriately.
Restrictions on use
- Preferably for outdoor use or in well-ventilated spaces; for interiors, use specific products intended for that purpose.
- Not suitable for surfaces in contact with food, drinking water or toys unless expressly stated on the product.
- Do not apply to surfaces hot to the touch, fireplaces, barbecues or objects exposed to high temperatures, unless the product specifies otherwise.
- Do not use near open flames, sparks or appliances that could ignite vapours.
- Do not mix paints or solvents of different types unless directed by the manufacturer.
- Do not spray in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation and respiratory protection.
- Keep children and pets away from the area during application and drying.
- Pregnant people, those with asthma or sensitivity to solvents should avoid exposure to vapours and sanding dust.
