Safety warnings and precautions
Key risks
- Leaks and freeze-related cracks or bursts that can cause water damage and slippery surfaces.
- Hose whip and impacts caused by sudden opening or closing or by excessive pressure.
- Scalds from hot water if the tap is connected to hot water or if the hose has heated up in the sun.
- Contamination of the domestic water supply by backflow if hoses are submerged in buckets/ponds or if fertilisers/pesticides connected to the tap are used.
- Electrical hazard if the spray reaches sockets, light fittings or other appliances.
- Cuts or pinches when handling handles, threads or damaged metal edges.
Safe use
- Before use, check that the tap is securely fixed, free from cracks or looseness, and that the seals show no wear.
- Open and close the water flow gradually to prevent water hammer and sudden hose movement.
- Use compatible hoses and connectors in good condition; replace any fittings that are cracked or leaking.
- Avoid submerging the end of the hose in buckets, ponds or pools. If you connect irrigation equipment, fertilisers or chemicals, use a backflow prevention device recommended by the manufacturer.
- Keep the spray away from sockets, extension leads and electrical appliances. Do not handle the tap with wet hands if operating nearby electrical equipment.
- Do not hang heavy hoses, chains or other objects from the tap and do not use it as an anchor point.
- Before disconnecting the hose, close the tap and relieve the pressure to prevent hose whip.
- If the hose has been in the sun, let it run for a few seconds to discharge very hot water before use.
Storage and maintenance
- In cold periods, close the internal isolation valve if present, drain the line, and protect the tap with an insulating cover to minimise frost damage.
- Periodically check the condition of seals, handle and threads; replace components that are damaged or that leak persistently.
- Clean the exterior with water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive or corrosive cleaners that could damage finishes and seals.
- Keep the area around the tap clear to prevent knocks from garden tools or machinery.
- Do not force threaded connections; if tightening is necessary, do so moderately to avoid damaging the seals.
- During prolonged absences, close the isolation valve and disconnect the hose to reduce the risk of leaks.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use the tap for drinking water unless expressly stated by the manufacturer.
- Do not use the tap with steam, excessively hot water, fuels, solvents or harsh chemicals.
- Do not use the tap at sub-zero temperatures unless using models designed for freezing conditions and installed appropriately for frost protection.
- Do not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended pressure or connect to uncontrolled high-pressure pumps.
- Do not modify the tap or carry out drilling, welding or internal alterations.
- Do not leave the tap open unattended. Keep children and pets away and always close it after use.
