Usage Warnings

Garden Waste Bags and Organic Containers

Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Infestation by insects or rodents and the development of odours if unsuitable waste is added or if the lid is left open.
  • Contact with microorganisms, moulds and leachate that may cause skin, eye or respiratory irritation.
  • Heat build-up inside active compost, with a risk of minor burns when handling it.
  • Tipping or movement due to wind or an unbalanced load.
  • Cuts or pinching when opening or closing lids, catches or hinges.
  • Slips caused by leachate spills around the container.
  • Strain and back injuries when moving or lifting heavy material.

Safe use

  • Place the container on a firm, level and stable surface; if it is tall or lightweight, consider securing or anchoring it.
  • Keep the lid tightly closed and the catches secured to limit pests and the spread of odours.
  • Add only organic materials suitable for the system; avoid materials that attract pests or hinder the process, unless the product is designed for this.
  • Never add embers, hot ashes or cigarette ends.
  • Wear gloves and, if there is dust or spores, light respiratory protection; wash your hands after each use.
  • Open the lid carefully and hold it; keep your fingers away from hinges and catches.
  • Avoid inhaling vapours directly when opening after long periods of closure.
  • Manage leachate: use the intended trays or outlets, clean up spills immediately and keep the area dry.
  • To remove or move material, use suitable tools and split loads to avoid overexertion.

Storage and maintenance

  • Ideally place it outdoors or in well-ventilated areas with partial shade, away from living spaces and sleeping areas.
  • Leave clear space around it to open, aerate and work safely.
  • Ensure good ground drainage or use a base/tray if the model requires it.
  • Check the structure, anchors and catches periodically; replace or repair damaged parts.
  • Clean with water and a pH-neutral detergent; avoid harsh products that may leave residues.
  • Keep ventilation grilles or holes free from obstructions.
  • In windy areas, secure the container; protect against frost or intense sunlight as appropriate.
  • Do not force walls or lids at low temperatures, when materials may be more brittle.

Restrictions on use

  • Not suitable for storing or disposing of chemicals, oils, paints, solvents, cigarette ends or hot ashes.
  • Do not use for food or drinking water.
  • Do not add animal faeces, diseased plant material or weeds with mature seeds unless the system is designed for it.
  • Do not use in enclosed, unventilated spaces; use indoors only if the model explicitly states this.
  • Do not stand or sit on the container, or lean ladders against it; it is not a structural element.
  • Do not move the container when it is full or with loose contents; reduce the load before moving it.
  • Do not place it on unstable surfaces or those that cannot support the total weight of the wet contents.
  • Keep the product out of reach of small children and pets; handling by minors must be supervised.
