Flow Meters

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Fluid leakage or ejection when handling pressurised lines, with risk of thermal or chemical burns and injection injuries.
  • Breakage of housings, fittings or seals by exceeding pressure or temperature limits, or due to water hammer.
  • Incorrect readings due to improper installation, presence of air/bubbles, solids in the fluid or lack of calibration, with potential overdosing or process failures.
  • Damage due to chemical incompatibility or particle abrasion that degrades internal materials and causes leaks.
  • Electrical hazard in powered models: moisture, damaged cables or poorly protected connections.
  • Pinching or cuts when touching moving parts during cleaning or maintenance in models with a turbine/rotor.
  • Fire or explosion risk if used with flammable fluids or in explosive atmospheres when the equipment is not suitable for this.

Safe use

  • Verify that the flow meter is compatible with the type of fluid, flow range, pressure and temperature specified by the manufacturer.
  • Isolate, depressurise and, if applicable, drain and vent the line before installing, removing or cleaning. Use gloves and eye protection appropriate to the fluid.
  • Install in the marked flow direction and orientation; use gaskets and sealants suitable for the fluid and the connections. Avoid overtightening and do not force threads.
  • Commission gradually to check leak-tightness; purge air if the system requires it.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding installation requirements (e.g., straight runs, orientation, electrical connection and earthing where applicable).
  • Open and close valves slowly to avoid water hammer and overpressure.
  • For electrical models, disconnect the power supply before handling; protect cables and connectors and keep electronic enclosures closed. Do not immerse non-sealed parts.
  • Keep upstream filters or strainers clear if the fluid contains solids to prevent blockages and pressure drops.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store in a dry, clean and ventilated place, protected from frost, extreme heat, humidity and direct sunlight. Keep protective caps on the ports.
  • Avoid shocks and vibrations during transport and storage; do not stack weight on the equipment.
  • Clean with products compatible with the flow meter and system materials. Avoid aggressive solvents on gaskets, seals and electronic parts.
  • Periodically check for leaks, corrosion, and the condition of seals, fasteners, displays and wiring. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Verify and recalibrate at reasonable intervals according to usage and the manufacturer’s guidance to maintain measurement accuracy.
  • Before disassembly or storage, drain and rinse the meter to remove fluid residues, especially if corrosive, toxic or flammable.
  • In models with moving parts, gently remove solid deposits without tools that could deform the rotor or supports.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the flow meter outside the pressure, temperature and flow ranges specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use with flammable fluids or in potentially explosive atmospheres unless the equipment is clearly designed for it.
  • Not suitable for medical use or for contact with food or drinking water unless explicitly specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use the flow meter with gases or liquids other than those intended for the model; avoid use with mixtures with a high air content if it is designed for liquids.
  • Do not modify the equipment or drill, weld or open sealed housings; do not alter sensors or electronics.
  • Do not use the device as a structural support or as a line shut-off device.
  • Do not apply high-pressure cleaning jets to electronic parts or immerse the equipment if it is not designed for immersion.
  • Do not use sealants, oils or lubricants that could contaminate the process or degrade the materials; use only those recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Keep the product out of the reach of children and ensure supervision by competent personnel when handling high pressures or hazardous substances.
